One Week to Rescue Me - Pre-Order & Excerpt

The second book in the Silver Fox Romance series will release in one week! But if you don't want to have to mark your calendar, or sign-up for my mailing list for the reminder, don't worry. You can pre-order right now and it will appear on your favorite e-reader on November 14th! (Can you tell I love pre-order? I do it all the time.)

As I was planning the story for Rescue Me, I realized I set most of my books in the summertime, and I decided I needed a winter story, after all, I've lived with snowy & cold weather all my life. In western New York, where the Silver Fox Romances are set, summer weather lasts a much shorter time than winter. It was fun adding all those realistic winter details into the story

Blurb:

After years of playing it safe, Bonnie Petrowski’s first attempt at being wild and spontaneous leaves her spinning off the road during a blinding snowstorm. The sassy widow has few regrets, but never owning up to her feelings for her late husband’s best friend is one of them. And now it might be too late.
Firefighter Joe Waterman isn’t going to let a little thing like a blizzard stop him from getting the hell away from his big empty house. He doesn’t get far, however, before discovering a small car buried in the snow. When he recognizes his friend’s widow inside, his unwanted attraction to her still blazes hot enough to melt the snow piling up around them. After he rescues her, not only do the sparks continue to zap between them - Bonnie wants to talk about their feelings for each other.

Joe made a promise years ago and he’s bound to keep it. Even if it means he and Bonnie can never have a chance at forever together.
Excerpt:
“Kick off your boots and hang your coat on the hook over there.” Joe didn’t know why his voice sounded strangled.
He froze as he watched Bonnie shed the snowy coat and boots, then step out of the wet, heavy sweatpants. He nearly choked when she turned to him and he got the full impact of the woman he hadn’t seen in the past two years.
She’d always been curvy, with hips that flared out just the way he liked it. But right now that purple dress clung to her curves in a way that was almost sinful. The V neckline showed off her mouthwatering cleavage. And her bare feet…somehow seeing her toes with their pale pink polish made a low growl slip from his lips.
“Did you say something?”
“No.” He turned and hung up his coat, then kicked his boots clear across the mudroom. “Where did you go dressed up all fancy like that?”
Her eyes widened, then narrowed. “Out to dinner.”
He scoffed. “You drove all that way for a date?”
She stepped over the clumps of snow, stomped past him into the kitchen, then whirled around. “I didn’t say it was a date.”
“Dressed like that?” Joe followed her, stepped up close. He caught a faint scent of something flowery. She’d put on perfume for this guy.
Bonnie propped her hands on those luscious hips. “So what if I went on a date. What’s it to you?
She was magnificent when she was wound up. And she was right. It was none of his business. Except when he had to rescue her from her car. “He should have come to you if he wanted to see you. Not make you drive in this crappy weather.” If Joe knew who the jerk was, he’d—
“He didn’t make me,” she snapped. “He said he had an early morning, so I offered to make the drive. We didn’t know the weather was going to get bad. It was spur of the moment. It was romantic.”
Romantic? Nothing about the last couple of hours had been romantic. Something in her tone sounded defensive, made him think she wasn’t telling him everything. “So who is this guy?”
“You’re not my father, Joe. What’s with the interrogation?”
“I’m just concerned.”
When she rolled her eyes, he was reminded of the cute young woman she’d been when Frank first brought her around. Bright and sparkly with no shadows haunting her eyes. “Don’t worry about me. I’m doing fine.”
“Of course, you are.” The thought of Bonnie dressing up like that, all pretty and sexy, for some guy he didn’t know bugged the hell out of him. Joe knew being pissed that she’d never dressed up for him made no sense at all. He’d watched her run off to Erie because that was the way it had to be. But his screwed up emotions were no reason to treat her this way now.
“Thank you for getting me out of a ditch. I’m sorry I snapped at you, but I’m really tired and—”
“Sure. Follow me. The guest room has its own bathroom and you can use all the hot water you want.”
“A hot shower sounds wonderful.”
“I’ll grab some dry clothes and leave them on the bed, then put on a pot of decaf.”
“That’d be great.”
Joe watched her pad down the hall, then went into the master and rummaged around in his dresser for something for Bonnie to wear. He finally grabbed a T-shirt and another pair of sweatpants. He stepped into the guest room and heard the shower running behind the closed bathroom door.
As a firefighter, he was the kind of guy who ran into a burning building when everyone else was running out. But right now, knowing the woman he’d loved for years was naked behind that closed door, he ran away like the flames of hell were at his heels.

The Trouble with Demons:

Witches and warlocks hide their true identities from the rest of the human population, while three teens with demon heritage living with human families, become unlikely companions in a race against time to deal with a demon threat to humankind in their own quirky way.

Alana Fainot, a witch and half Kubiteron demon, witnesses a Matusa murder his summoner, and she knows he’ll target her next. Raised by her mother, she has no idea who her demon father is. But when she’s pulled to a demon portal, she meets Hunter Ross, half Matusa, half human, who returns demons to their world, but who’s been poisoned by a Matusa and is more dead than alive. His human mother gave him up for adoption, and he doesn’t know who either of his birth parents are. His friend Jared Kensington, full blooded Elantus demon, less powerful than the Kubiteron, is a whiz at electronics and helps Hunter track demons in the city, but was abandoned by his parents on Earth world for reasons unknown. He’s determined to find help to save Hunter. Alana knows aiding any Matusa is a mistake, but when she learns Hunter is half human, she makes a deal—he protects her against the Matusa who will come for her, and she helps find his dad in the demon world to save Hunter’s life.

Often at odds, the three teens work together to stop the plans of a group of Matusa to take over the human race before it’s too late.
Excerpt:
“I wondered maybe if she’s taken Dad’s advice.” Uncle Stephen’s eyes were almost sympathetic.
Her mother hadn’t taken her grandfather’s advice since he kicked her out of the family when she became pregnant. Which meant Alana hadn’t had anything to do with her grandparents either. She frowned. Wonder what my demon grandparents would be like? She’d never even considered she had another set. “What advice did Grandfather give her?”
“That she find a warlock and settle down.”
She snorted. “That would be the day.” Yet a small niggling worry gnawed at her. What if her mother wanted to rejoin the secret magic users’ circles?
She could, once Alana was no longer at home. Was that what her mother was up to? She wanted to find a life with her own kind again? Clenching her teeth, Alana sat down, then took out her contacts. She had one more year left at high school. Couldn’t her mother wait until she went to college at least? Whose fault was it that Mom had ruined her own chances with a warlock?
Secrets, always secrets.
But… if her mother returned to the magic users’ circles, where would that leave Alana? Out in the cold? Not able to be part of the demon world or really fit into the human world… jeez, what had her mother done to her?
“What are those? Contacts? Why are you wearing them? None of us have vision problems.”
“I have red eyes when I get angry.” She tried to make her temper rise, but she couldn’t. The feelings had to arise naturally and despite how annoyed she was with her uncle, she apparently couldn’t make herself angry enough. And now she couldn’t quit wondering about the way her mother shipped her off so suddenly.
He shook his head. “She’s really taken this thing too far. Why didn’t you tell me about this last summer? I would have made sure you didn’t return to live with her.”
The way her blood boiled, Alana was certain her eyes glowed with fire, but her uncle didn’t seem to notice anything different. Ignoring his question, Alana figured she’d better get to the point of the matter. “I saw a Matusa demon summoned in Baltimore, then murder a woman. I’m sure the other two who had helped summon him were next on his agenda. He saw me watching him, but I wasn’t really physically there. I could sense everything in the darkened alley, the breeze, the odors, hear the words spoken, everything. It was some kind of an astral dream-walking experience. You know? Like being sleep paralyzed? Except I’m wide awake. So it’s not exactly like the out-of-body-experience, OBE, that scientists have studied. How could I be in two places at once if I wasn’t part demon? No witches or warlocks you know can do that, can they?”
“Hallucination? You’re not eating some of those mushrooms your grandmother was getting into last year, are you? She saw some of the most bizarre things until we realized what she was eating for a midnight snack.”
“I don’t do drugs, Uncle Stephen.”
Her uncle’s face turned stormy. “You haven’t had a near death experience, have you? If your mother didn’t tell me…”
“No, Uncle Stephen. I’ve never been clinically dead, or nearly dead.” Though if the Baltimore Matusa got hold of her…
He took a ragged breath. “That’s good to hear. If you’re done with your coffee, we’ll go back to work.”
So that was it? No death experiences, no using drugs, dismiss the issue? She growled inwardly. “Defensive spells?”
“Levitation, until you get your mind centered where it needs to be.”
Now, aren’t my eyes glowing red?
***
A half hour later, as the sun’s fiery orange glow sank beneath the earth, Alana was levitating two coffee cups. Concentrating was proving to be more difficult by the second, but she knew focusing had a great deal to do with successfully casting any spell.
She squinted, trying to make out the title on the book Uncle Stephen was reading. Barbecue recipes? He looked up at her, making sure the cups hadn’t moved.
Relaxing New Age music played overhead. The fragrance of the coffee lingered in the air. She licked her lips and could still taste the sweetened decaf. Outside, a light rain pattered on the cement walk, and she smelled the shower-cleaned air, totally attuned to her surroundings.
Closing her eyes, she concentrated on the cups. But before she knew what was happening, her eyes focused on a vision—a sign, Hayworth Motel, rusted, swinging loosely in the Texas breeze. Then her gaze shifted. The yawning portal filled with light drew her forth.
The wind whipped at her hair and clothes, and the garbage odor from a nearby dumpster permeated the warm, humid air, a slight rain drizzling.
A man moved into her vision, not from the portal, but from a few feet away. A Matusa demon with long, dark hair, but not the same as the one in Baltimore. Her breath caught. He didn’t see her yet, and she wanted to slip out before he did, but then she saw another. Much younger, maybe her age or a little older, he was tall like her Uncle Stephen, his blond spiked hair cut short, his blue eyes sharp and wary.
He was like the other, but not. She couldn’t pinpoint what made him different, besides being younger, but he was also a Matusa. She’d never seen two of them together. Was this something new? A gathering of the Dark Ones before they plotted to conquer the human race?
But where was the summoner?
Both the older man and the younger one turned to look at her, their eyes widening. Ohmigod. She took a step back. Leave, leave, leave!
The older one’s lips turned up and his eyes reflected his sinister delight. “She’s mine.”
Okay, back to figuring  out contest winners, and thanks to everyone for comments and likes on my blogs! I really appreciate it!

EXCERPT from Legend of the White Wolf

Legend of the White Wolf
Arctic werewolves in a romantic suspense.
When I wrote Legend of the White Wolf, I was still in the believing stage that I wouldn’t sell any more wolf stories… you know, one was a miracle, then two was nice, but it took the publisher a year to decide it would fly, and the third and fourth book sold as a package deal, but that time just on a pitch. So for the first 4 stories, I wrote them as separate packs. Not connected, except that one wolf kept popping up in all of them. So his story was after that. Readers demanded that. Leidolf was a red wolf with a red wolf pack. All the stories were unique. And that’s what I really wanted to ensure. That with each story, they had to be different.
Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing makes Book 20 in the series. Can you believe it? And I’ve just finished up the next 3 books in the series and turned them in. And I have 3 more to write now. So that will be 26 in the series. So far. Every one of them has to be unique in some way. I try to base them on real wolves, so in Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply–she is in charge of her own pack. Just like some she-wolves are that have lost their pack mate. But sometimes a persistent male falls head over tail for the she-wolf, and after she quits chasing him off…she falls for him too. Prologue
The black bear was running away a hell of a lot faster than Owen Nottingham and his P.I. partner David Davis thought capable. Their hunting guide, Trevor Hodges, yelled at them to keep up, but at the rate the bear was going, Owen and David would never last. Already Owen had shin splints, and his side was aching something fierce, and damn, here he thought he was in good shape.
They couldn’t use dogs on the bear this late in the year in Maine, but the owner of Back Country Tours, Kintail Silverman got around that by sending his pet wolves on the hunt. Made Owen feel like he was part of a wolf pack, hunting for survival, the sleek white furred creatures diving around snow-laden firs, blending in, exhilarated, hunting together as a cooperative team. Although the experience would be more pleasurable if their other partners were with them, Cameron MacPherson, who wouldn’t hunt for anything other than criminals, and Gavin Summerfield, who’d rather stay in Seattle and work, than fly anywhere. But the four of them were like a wolf pack, solving crimes together as a collective unit and socializing as the best of friends throughout the good times and bad.
sabine-arctic-wolf-snowstorm-warm-text640x427
So Owen wished they could share hunting excursions together, too.
He noticed then only snowy woods in front of them, the wolves and bear lost in the forest ahead as the chilly wind howled through the trees. Trevor was still keeping a good pace in the distance. For being a white-haired old guy, he was lean and in incredibly great shape.
David had dropped way behind, but Owen was too busy trying to keep up the chase to wait for David to catch up. One last day before their hunt ended. And hell, they’d tried to bag a bear for the last four years without any luck. The way the bear was outdistancing them in a hurry in the Maine wilderness, Owen was beginning to lose hope they’d make it this time either. But it was the closest they’d come.
When Owen didn’t hear David’s heavy breathing behind him, or his size ten boots trudging through the deep snow, he turned and looked to see how far behind he was. David was holding his thighs, leaning over, gasping for breath.
“David, you all right?” Owen asked, knowing it was a dumb question, when he figured David was trying to catch his second wind and couldn’t answer anyway.
David motioned him on, wheezing, his face red and pinched with pain. “Get the bear! I’m fine. Go. I’ll catch up.”
But it wasn’t like David not to keep up on a hunt and Owen ran back to check on him. “What’s wrong?” Owen asked, grabbing his arm to steady him.
“Go. You’ll…never…forgive…me…if we…” David clutched his chest.
The wolves and Trevor circled back and joined them. The old man shook his head. “Chest pains?”
Through clenched teeth, David growled, “From…running…damn it.”
David was the oldest of the four partners in their private investigator practice, but at thirty-five, David couldn’t be having a heart attack.
With millions of acres of forest land all around them, they were too deep into the wilderness to get help. Cell phones wouldn’t work out here. Owen knew CPR, but…
He helped David to sit. “What are you feeling?” he asked, trying to disguise the anxiety in his voice, although he couldn’t hide a deepening frown, and David noticed.
“Don’t be a…worry…” David clutched his chest even harder, his face sweating in the frigid air.
“We can’t get any help to him way out here,” Trevor said quietly. “If he’s having a heart attack, it’s not a bad way to go. Quick, no lingering illness.”
“No!” Owen snapped. “Do you have any aspirin?” How could he let his friend from childhood and one of the best partners he’d had in law enforcement before they’d left the force die on him? He couldn’t. “I know CPR.”
“It won’t be enough.” Trevor sounded like the voice of reason, but Owen didn’t want to hear it.
The image of David lunging in front of him, taking a bullet in the shoulder two years ago, flashed across Owen’s mind. He wouldn’t let him go. He couldn’t.
The wolves watched silently, almost sympathetically as if one of their pack members was in trouble, their ears perked, their tongues hanging out, panting after the long run.
His hand clutching David’s shoulder, Owen clenched his teeth to bite back the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness. “Can’t we do something? Anything?”
“Possibly,” Trevor said, “but it will change his life and yours, forever.”
“I’d do anything to save my friend’s life,” Owen said, figuring Trevor was thinking in terms of if he had enough money, they could air evac him out somewhere, maybe in a clearing where the loggers had been.
Trevor put a hand on Owen’s shoulder. “You sure?”
“Anything, damn it. However much it costs, it’s worth it.”
Trevor looked back at the wolves. The biggest one bowed its head slightly, then bared his teeth and lunged.
Before Owen could fathom what was happening, the wolf bit David in the arm. He cried out in pain.
Owen swung his rifle to his shoulder to shoot the beast, when he caught a blur of white fur in his peripheral vision, right before one of the other wolves pounced on him.

New Release, a Secret and a Sale

Finally! Her Royal Mistake, the long-awaited book #3 in the Her Royal Romance series is here!!

I'd planned to have this book release in 2014 and I want to thank all my readers who have patiently waited for Birgitte and Nardo's story. If you follow this blog, you know about the family emergency last year that had me running to Florida to be with my parents for five months. No writing happened during that stressful time. But the problems with the book started before then. I'll let you in on a little secret. I'd originally planned for Birgitte to end up with Prince Stefano, Vittorio and Angelina's brother! The story wasn't working, but I hung onto that premise for longer than I should have. After I wrote Her Royal Rendezvous for the charity anthology, Love Is... and met the lovely Liliana Gullotti, I realized she had a large family and her sexy brother, Nardo, was the perfect hero for Birgitte. I'd started the story with these two characters before heading to Florida, and I've finally finished it. I'm pleased to say I think it's now one of my favorites!

Blurb:

A night of passion leaves the princess pregnant.

Birgitte, the “Ice Princess” of Stagatland escapes her narrow and empty royal existence with mindless partying. A wild night with a handsome olive farmer leaves her with a problem that can only be solved one way…a marriage of convenience. Raised by cold and judgmental parents, Birgitte knows nothing of love but is determined to do her duty to the royal line.

With royal blood in his own veins, Nardo Gullotti is a man of honor and proposes as soon as Birgitte mentions her pregnancy. But passionate and earthy Nardo can’t be satisfied with a marriage in name only. He is entranced by the lovely Birgitte and determined to shatter the ice around her heart…by any means necessary.

Excerpt:

“Take me to bed,” she murmured, her lips brushing against his.

Nardo scooped her up into his arms as if she weighed nothing at all, as if she wasn’t nearly as tall as he was. He carried her over to the bed and dropped her onto the jumble of bedclothes. His smile warmed her even more. He slipped off her shoes, tossing each one over his shoulder. She didn’t bother to notice where they landed.

“I never thought I’d have you in my bed again.” He stripped off the rest of his clothing while he talked, his gaze never leaving hers. “It made me sad because I enjoyed very much giving you pleasure. Being pressed up against you, skin on skin. You’re beautiful, but it was your taste, your touch that drew me to you. That made me desire you again.” His smile made her shiver. “That makes me desire you now. Naked. With me.”

“Did you talk this much before?” Her amusement was clear in her voice. “If so, I don’t remember.”

He lifted a brow. “You don’t like my words?”

“I like your words a lot, but I’d like it more if you would stop talking now.”

“And why is that?”

“Because I can think of a much better use for that charming mouth of yours.”

His wicked smile sent chills over her and when he crawled onto the mattress and between her legs, she threw her head back and let him charm her with his mouth, his lips, his tongue. His breath was hot on her thighs as he rained kisses along her sensitive skin. She moaned when she might have cried out. She couldn’t forget they were not alone in the house.

“So you like my mouth?” He nipped at the spot behind her knee she loved him to play with.

“I like the things it does.” She gasped. “Do that again.”

He looked up at her with a smile in his eyes. “Ah, so now you are back to commanding me, principessa?”

She reached out and threaded her fingers through his silky hair. “You can have your turn telling me what you want me to do. As before. Just do that thing again. Now.”

“This?” He scraped his teeth over her skin and she shivered.

“Yes,” she hissed.

He nipped her once more, then kissed that sweet spot before he moved between her thighs to taste her there. She arched her back as he swept his tongue over her. He could do whatever he wanted with his talented mouth and she’d beg him for more.

No, not beg, command.

Maybe not command, ask. Ask for more.

As he played with her with his mouth and she writhed beneath him, she thought that maybe she would beg after all.

Countdown to Her Royal Mistake

A new release always fills me with a mixture of emotions. Excitement that I can send another romance is out in the world, to give readers some sigh-worthy emotion and another happy ending. Trepidation because what if some readers think my baby is ugly. Frustration because it's so hard to get visibility today in the marketplace, and promotion takes so much time away from writing, and how do I know if I'm reaching the readers who will love sexy, emotional romances with royals falling in love with the girl (or guy) next door? But I'm also filled with joy because I love writing romance and I love connecting with readers who love them too.

Self-publishing gives an author flexibility, but it also can make for soft release days. Right now, I hope to see Her Royal Mistake go live by Friday, August 21st. If everything goes smoothly, it could be earlier. If life throws a curve-ball, it could be later. If you'd like to be notified when Her Royal Mistake releases (and a heads-up to a limited time 99 cent sale on book #1 Her Royal Masquerade) sign-up for my mailing list. You can also like my Facebook page or follow me on Twitter to catch the release notification.

Excerpt:

He hadn’t expected her to fit so well. In his arms. Against his body. A woman as hard and unyielding as Birgitte should not have molded so well to him.

She was softer than he thought she would be too. And warm. So warm. This was no Ice Princess in his arms. Again he wondered at the mask she seemed to wear so effortlessly.

The Mezzano Royal String Ensemble played romantic music this evening, perfect for holding a woman close and letting his body brush against hers. Birgitte’s scent was sharp, nothing soft or floral for this princess. Still, Nardo found his face buried in her hair, inhaling the essence of the woman in his arms.

“You’re a good dancer,” she told him.

“You sound surprised.”

She shrugged lazily and followed his steps as they glided across the floor. His hand found her bare back and he stroked her soft, warm skin. The people around them seemed to fade away. It was only him and Birgitte and the music. She sighed against his neck.

“Are you bored now?” The words came out sharper than he intended.

She didn’t lift her head from his shoulder. “No, Nardo. I’m no longer bored.”

“What changed your mind?” he murmured. Her soft hair brushed his cheek and caused something to clench deep inside him.

She leaned back and he found himself drowning in her blue eyes. “About what?”

“Dancing with me.”

“Oh that. You were right. I like to dance.”

But something must have happened after she walked away from him and the two glasses of champagne. “You could have chosen another partner.”

“I realized I didn’t want to dance with anyone else,” she replied smoothly.

“My luck.”

“Yes.” A slight smile lifted her lips but it wasn’t the bright, unguarded one she’d sent him earlier. “Of course, I’m the lucky one to have such a handsome dance partner.”

The words were obviously practiced. Ones she’d no doubt said to hundreds of men while she spent her time haunting clubs and hooking up with her many dance partners. “Of course,” he replied tightly.

What was he doing? The princess intrigued him, but he wasn’t a masochist. He wasn’t interested in being one of her many conquests. What did it matter if they fit together well on the dance floor? Men and women were built that way. It didn’t mean anything. This dance was over. He began to pull away.

“Your sister’s delightful.”

The princess’s comment came out of nowhere and surprised him enough to remain on the dance floor with her. “I’ve never heard her going on about dresses and hair and high heeled shoes before.”

Birgitte’s soft laughter wafted warmly against his cheek. “Well, of course not. Do you think she’d talk to her brother about such things?”

“I suppose not.”

She was silent for a moment, then said, “It was refreshing to talk with someone who had no hidden agenda.”

Nardo didn’t let himself think about how her comment revealed the kind of life she lived, he only focused on the personal dig. “Does that mean you think I have a hidden agenda?”

Her hip pressed against his obvious erection. “Perhaps yours is not so hidden.”

He froze, gripped her shoulders in the middle of the dance floor. The couples around them threw curious glances their way. “I didn’t ask you to dance in order to get you into bed.”

“Of course not.” Her voice was flat, the tone wry.

“I’m attracted to you.” His was voice low, rushed. “But I didn’t ask you to dance to have sex with you.”

“No. You wanted to show me that I wouldn’t be bored.”

Her Royal Mistake - An Excerpt

I want to apologize to all my readers who have been waiting for book #3 in my Her Royal Romance series. Writing has been slow going for me for the past year, and my father's medical emergency and the five months being on call for him and my mom has made it even harder to get back into the writing routine. I don't like making excuses, no one does, but I just wanted to explain to those of you who might be wondering. I am deep in the middle of the romance between Princess Birgitte, the cousin Mia was impersonating in Her Royal Masquerade, and Leonardo Gullotti, cousin to Prince Vittorio and Princess Angelina of books #1 and #2, and I will release it as soon as possible.

Blurb:

Princess Birgitte is feeling sorry for herself when she attends the wedding of her cousin to her former fiancé. After years of not letting anyone get too close, the ice princess realizes she’s all alone with no one she can love or trust. That night, she hooks up with one of the groom’s cousins, a handsome hot-blooded olive farmer, so unlike any man she’s been with before. They share a night of incredible sex, but she can’t handle the unexpected emotions that come along with it. So Birgitte does was she does best, runs and hides from her mistakes. But six weeks later, she can’t run or hide from the fact that she’s pregnant.

Leonardo Gullotti’s mother may be sister to the king, but his life revolves around the family’s olive business. He’s haunted by the lovely Birgitte, but he’s not impressed with anyone who would run away from their problems. He’s always been a stand and deal with it kind of guy. So when Birgitte comes to him with her news, he proposes on the spot, even though he knows that marrying a future queen will threaten his participation in the family business he loves.

Birgitte knows her baby needs to be legitimate, but will only agree to a marriage of convenience. She doesn’t want any messy emotions involved. But living with Nardo, and not loving him, might be the biggest mistake of all.

I've totally fallen in love with Nardo and he's done much to warm the Ice Princess. But it's going to be difficult for her to get past her fears and insecurities. Good thing Nardo isn't the type to be scared away easily.

So for those of you who are waiting, here is a sneak peek at the opening of Her Royal Mistake.

“Is this seat taken?”

Birgitte slowly raised her eyes from the drink she’d been nursing for the past hour. She desperately wanted to be drunk, so much so that she had refused to accept another glass, terrified of what words or actions more alcohol might unleash. There was too much freaking happiness in the air and she was afraid she’d go mad with it before the night was over.

The man now standing beside her out-of-the-way table was another big, dark Mezzano male. They were everywhere tonight. He looked enough like the groom that he must be related to Prince Vittorio somehow. She let out a low bark of a laugh. Weren’t they all related?

She took another sip of the watered-down liquor and didn’t answer. Kept her blank mask firmly in place.

He flashed her a smile, obviously not taking the hint. An annoying tickle hit her mid-section, making her frown and snap, “Go away.”

“It is a crime for a beautiful woman like you to be sitting here all alone.” His voice was soft and smooth, and made Birgitte want to scream. “See? I have brought you a new drink.” He held out two champagne flutes.

“I don’t want another drink.” She cut her gaze to the ornately decorated ballroom and the lavishly dressed guests talking, dancing, laughing. But when she caught a glimpse of the oh-so-happy bridal couple, Birgitte jerked her attention back to the stubborn man still standing beside her table.

Broad shoulders filled out his suit jacket well. His dark hair was thick and had a wave that wasn’t quite tamed. He wasn’t smoothly handsome, but he had a magnetism about him that surprised her. He winked. “You can’t celebrate with melted ice cubes.”

She’d never felt so alone. So tired. So less inclined to celebrate a marriage. “Believe me, you don’t want to be around me right now.”

She desperately wanted to leave, but it was too soon. She had her orders to keep up appearances, and she supposed she was already failing at that. The room was overrun with representatives of the Mezzano side of this union and Birgitte knew she was expected to be here as a member of the Stagatland contingency. The fact that she was family took second place.

“Aren’t you the bride’s cousin?” He sat beside her without an invitation. He seemed bigger, hulking even, when he was only inches away from her. She should have been used to the size of the Mezzano males after spending time with Vittorio, but this man was different. Not polished like the prince. An evening stubble darkened his strong jaw and his tanned skin spoke of much time out in the sun.

For an insane moment, she pictured him shirtless, beneath a maze of branches. His feet in deep grass. His face turned up to the sun. Earthy. That was one word for this stranger.

Male was another.

His deep voice rumbled, but it was somehow softened with the smooth and lyrical accent of his homeland. “Birgitte, right? It’s a lovely name. For a lovely woman.”

She glared at him but he smiled and offered her a glass. She told herself the heat flaring in her chest was anger at his presumptuousness. Still, she found herself taking the glass instead of ordering him again to go away.

“I am Leonardo Gullotti. One of the groom’s many cousins.” His eyes were warm like melted chocolate and Birgitte had learned long ago to avoid that kind of temptation. “Our cousins have married. Smile. That means we are family now.”

“Family?” Birgitte lifted her brow and let her gaze sweep over the crowd. “I think you have too much family already.”

“Oh no. You can never have too much family, principessa.”

Just the thought of that many people surrounding her, scrutinizing her, pressing in on her, made Birgitte’s palms sweat. But wasn’t that how she lived her life every day? It wasn’t only family who criticized her every move and questioned every decision she made. The citizens of Stagatland kept track of everything she did as well, thanks to the paparazzi who seemed to follow her everywhere.

Was it any wonder she yearned to escape?

Leonardo tapped his glass to hers and caught her gaze. “Salute.”

“Skol.” For a moment, she was lost in his dark eyes. Long enough that she actually drank a toast to the happy couple.

Birgitte slammed the glass down onto the table. “Mr. Gullotti—”

“Nardo,” he said with a wink. “My friends…and family…call me Nardo.”

The music seemed to fade into the distance. The conversations and laughter around them were suddenly muted as well. Birgitte swallowed to moisten her suddenly-dry mouth. She did her best to give him her haughty-princess gaze. “You and I. We are not family.”

“No?” His sensuous lips lifted into a small smile and his gaze seemed to heat as he looked at her. In that moment, she could understand why the people of Mezzano were described as hot-blooded.

“Perhaps I am glad that is so,” he went on. “I admit I desire to take you out onto the dance floor and hold you closer to me than would be proper for family.”

She sucked in her breath and looked down her nose at him even as her heart raced. “Don’t be ridiculous.”

“What is ridiculous is a lovely woman sitting alone and unhappy while everyone else is having a wonderful time.” He took her hand then and sandwiched it between his two large ones. His calloused palms were rough against her skin. What would they feel like running over her body?

“I’m not unhappy.” She snatched her hand away and curled it into a fist in her lap. “I’m bored.”

“All the more reason to allow me to escort you to the dance floor.” He studied her for a moment, his expression darkening when she did not agree. “I have heard the stories of the party girl princess. How she can dance for hours in crowded clubs with the lights flashing and the music pulsing and the floor crowded with gyrating bodies.” He shrugged with a dismissive lift of a strong, broad shoulder. “Yes, I can see how even a royal wedding would be boring for a woman like you.”

A woman like you. The disdainful comment shouldn’t have cut so deeply. Not from this man. A stranger. An unpolished, unsophisticated male.

She was schooled at keeping her emotions hidden, but Birgitte feared the unexpected hurt might show on her face so she quickly turned away. Looked out past the guests on the dance floor. And caught sight again of the newly wedded couple speaking with Mia’s parents, Birgitte’s aunt and uncle.

Mia made a lovely bride. She looked every bit the princess, a title she could now claim for real. Birgitte knew she should be pleased for her cousin. And she was. Mia was a loyal cousin. She deserved a happy ending.

But what about Birgitte’s happy ending?

She yanked her gaze away from the Mia and Vittorio. A fancy wedding to a foreign prince was not Birgitte’s idea of a happy ending. Far from it. Her life was just beginning. And it certainly didn’t include marriage or children or being stuck in a drafty castle ruling an entire Scandinavian country.

“Forgive me if I was too outspoken, Your Highness,” Nardo said. He stood and offered her his hand. “Dance with me. Let me prove that you would not be bored with me.”

“I don’t want to dance with you.” She knew she sounded cold. Cruel. But she couldn’t help it. She wanted to get out of here. Find some air she could breathe without the cloying scents of flowers and alcohol, myriad perfumes and earthy musk.

Birgitte rose to her feet slowly, regally. Turned away from the handsome man who didn’t deserve her ire. Who’d only brought her a drink and asked her to dance.

He should have taken the hint when he first approached her.

Birgitte did what she always did when thing got uncomfortable. Walked away without a backward glance.

First Advance Review & an Excerpt

The Cottage Next Door releases a week from tomorrow! I'm so excited about this one, because while I will continue to release erotic romances, The Cottage Next Door takes me back to my contemporary romance roots, and I'm looking forward to writing more of them as well.

The first advance review came in from Fresh Fiction, and the reviewer had come great things to say:

"THE COTTAGE NEXT DOOR is the second book I have read by Natasha Moore. She has a way of making the reader feel the sorrow and emotion in her characters. Be prepared to laugh one minute and cry the next. A strong willed and determined woman always makes a good story when she's fighting for what she loves and someone she is determined to heal. Natasha Moore is gifted with her words which make the reader feel strong emotions."

You can read the entire review here.

Here's an excerpt:

“Can’t sleep?”

Sylvie started. Hunter’s disembodied voice sounded loud in the darkness. She couldn’t see a thing on the deck next door, but had to assume he was sitting in his usual deck chair. Had he heard her moan?

Her heartbeat slowed back down to normal. “No.” She held her breath, waiting for him to swear and stomp into the cottage for intruding on his want-to-be-alone time. Or make a sarcastic comment about what she’d been doing when she thought no one was there.

“This is my favorite time at the beach,” he said, surprising her with his deep, pleasant tone.

“Because you can’t see the hundreds of people around you?”

His soft chuckle surprised her even more. He was quiet for a moment, then said, “Partly. But there’s something about the ocean at night. Do you hear it? Right now, this isn’t the fun-loving shore where kids splash and make sandcastles. It’s more primitive.” He was silent for a moment, and Sylvie got caught up in the roar of the waves as they crashed onto the beach. The sound pulled at her, called to her.

“Think of the hundreds of thousands of years the ocean has been pounding the sand,” he went on. “Eating away at the land, reclaiming it. Taking it back into the bowels of the deep.”

Her body heated more, even with the cooling breeze. His voice rolled over her, as powerful as the tug of the waves. She’d known there had to be more to him than that angry, bitter man she’d seen so far.

“Ashes to ashes? Dust to dust? Ocean to ocean?” she asked softly.

The waves pummeled the shore for several long moments before he replied, “Something like that.”

The words she’d been thinking slipped out easier in the darkness. “I’m sure she would want you to be happy.”

“What do you know?” he snapped, but Sylvie thought his voice contained more hurt than anger.

“I know what it’s like to roll over in the middle of the night and still be surprised to find the other side of the bed empty.”

“It’s like a kick in the gut every fucking time.”

“Yeah.” She wrapped her arms around her knees. “I still save up things I want to tell him about my day…”

“And then remember she’s not there to share those things with anymore.”

“I have to look at pictures to remember what he looked like when he was healthy and fit and eager for the next adventure.”

“I can’t remember what she smelled like anymore.” Hunter’s voice cracked. “She had this soft scent like powder and flowers and I don’t know what, but I used to be able to smell it everywhere in our apartment. It’s gone now too.”

She nodded even though she knew he couldn’t see it. “I used to sleep with one of Matt’s shirts and I cried all day when I realized his scent was gone.” Sylvie was pleased she could say that without getting tears in her eyes. Maybe she’d finally reached acceptance.

My First Romance

With the publication of Love Is...(the charity anthology which includes my story Her Royal Rendezvous) on Aug 5th, and The Cottage Next Door on Sept 16th, I just realized I will have 25 novels/novellas/short stories published! 25! Back in 2006, after writing and submitting for more years than I care to count, I despaired of ever being published. But in September of 2006, I got the e-mail that changed my life. Samhain Publishing wanted to publish my contemporary romance, The Ride of Her Life!

If there is a "book of the heart" this was the one for me. I learned so much going through the process of edits and covers and release days. It's still available in both print and download, so I thought I'd share the cover, blurb and an excerpt today.

The cover gods smiled on me. I'd been around long enough to know I was very lucky to get an awesome cover like this the first time out of the gate.

Blurb:

She’s in for the ride of her life.

After a devastating diagnosis, sensible Sarah Austin yearns to live life to the fullest. When she talks her former teenage crush into a cross-country ride on his Harley, she thinks it’s her one and only chance for adventure, including a fun fling with love ‘em and leave ‘em Bastian.

No longer a rebel, Dean Bastian is a counselor for troubled teens and ready to settle down. He doesn’t know why Sarah is so desperate for an adventure, but he’s willing to do anything to keep a smile on her face, even pretend to still be a bad boy.

Sarah doesn’t want to burden anyone with the future she faces, but can Dean convince her that the rest of her life can be an adventure…with him?

Excerpt:

He was out in the driveway, polishing the bike, when Sarah pulled up to the curb. At least, he thought it was Sarah. The woman who stepped out of the late-model Ford was petite, wearing faded blue jeans and a tight T-shirt that hugged her every curve. She pulled out a familiar saddlebag and slung it over her shoulder, then grabbed a pizza box out of the backseat. She nudged the door closed with her hip.

Dean couldn’t take his eyes off her, or her new short, spiky hairdo. She looked sexy as hell. He felt his body tighten as her hips swayed in the well-washed denim. Her white T-shirt stretched seductively across her breasts and his heart pounded at the sight. They were only talking about the trip and he already couldn’t control his response to her. They hadn’t even left the driveway yet. What would happen once they were on the road? He felt more than a little irritated that he was so out of control around her.

“What did you do to your hair?” he called out, a little harsher than necessary.

Her bright smile faltered and she lost the little rhythm she’d had in her step. Real smooth, Bastian. She continued up the walk at a slower pace and Dean met her halfway. He took the pizza box out of her hands but she didn’t meet his glance.

“I didn’t mean that how it sounded,” he told her. “You look great. In fact, I was blown away. You look so different.”

She shrugged her shoulders and finally looked at him. “I can’t fit a hairdryer in here,” she said, pulling the saddlebag off her shoulder. “The stylist said I just use a little gel and I’m ready to go.”

He’d always been one of those guys who loved women with long hair. Preferably flowing in a riot of curls down her back. But one look at Sarah and he was a changed man. The smooth pageboy she’d worn before had been plain and simple. But this flirty style brightened her eyes and flattered her tiny features. With a simple haircut, Sarah had been transformed from merely pretty to palm-tingling sexy.

He wanted to touch her again. Really touch her this time. Play with the fringe of hair around her face. Nibble on her pretty little ears. Kiss the bare nape of her neck. He grasped both ends of the pizza box. He was in big trouble.

If you like road trip romances, stories of good girls who want to be bad and the bad boys who want to be good, or simply an emotional contemporary romance, why not give The Ride of Her Life a try?

Countdown to The Cottage Next Door

Two months seems like a long time when you're waiting for a release, but this is summer, where I swear I have something going on almost every weekend and before long I won't be able to fit anything else in before summer is over. And then it will be September and WOW it will be release day for my second-chance-at-love beach romance, The Cottage Next Door.

Also, starting next week, I'll be heavy into promoting the charity anthology I've contributed to. The release date for Love Is... is Aug 5th and that will be here before we know it! Heads up - next Mon, Jul 21st will be cover reveal day - both for the anthology, and for my story, Her Royal Rendezvous. So check back next week for a peek at the awesome covers, and an excerpt from my Her Royal Romance short story. (In the meantime, we now have a Facebook page, you can "like" to get updates https://www.facebook.com/LoveisRomanceAnthology)

But for now - how about a little teaser to whet your appetite for The Cottage Next Door? I love my tortured hero and the heroine who brings him back to life.

Blurb:

It’s tough to grasp a second chance at love when you’re holding on to the past.

After his wife died in a car accident, bestselling author Hunter McCaffrey stopped writing—and stopped living. He’s rented a beachfront cottage to try to get his head on straight, and start the long climb up from his pit of despair.

Instead of pounding out a first draft, though, he runs the beach, drinks away his pain, and tries to ignore the vibrant woman in the cottage tucked next to his.

Still floundering months after the loss of her adventure-junkie husband, Sylvie Chase hopes some beach relaxation will help her decide what to do with the rest of her life. Instead she’s wondering what to do about her unexpected attraction to Hunter, who makes her body long for the feel of his arms around her.

As Sylvie drags Hunter back to the land of the living, soon they’re agreeing to a short fling. Just to get past their sorrow, not because it means anything. But when emotions get in the way, it’s a struggle to leave the past behind and dare to love again.

Warning: This story has plenty of sun and sand, with an energetic golden retriever thrown into the mix. Prepare to laugh and cry and cheer for two people who deserve a second chance at love.

Paolo's Series

Paolo’s Playhouse. A new playground for consenting adults. Playrooms for every interest or desire. Bring your own plaything or we can provide one for you. We’ll help your fantasies come to life. Inquiries, phone…

The last story in the Paolo's Playhouse series released recently and it appears I'm feeling nostalgic this morning as I think back over the past few years. When I started brainstorming this series, I wanted to write a series anchored by a place, an exclusive sex club with private playrooms. Then I'd take couples at a crossroads and bring them to the Playhouse. I'd focus on different types of kink - bondage, exhibitionism, voyeurism, and menage - and show how an evening in a playroom, exploring their relationships, help the couples to move forward, heal wounds, and even begin to fall in love.

But in the end, it wasn't a place that anchored this series. It was a person. Paolo. And readers liked him so much that after Plaything, Paolo's story, the last in the original four short stories, they asked to see more. And so Playing for Real was born, a longer story, delving deeper into his relationship with Julianne, who he'd only just met in Plaything. I don't often re-read my stories after they're published, but I recently did with Playing for Real and I have to admit, I loved the way it turned out. And after five stories, Paolo finally got his happy ending.

All five of the Paolo's Playhouse stories are stand-alones, so if only a few appeal to you, you don't need to read the others to enjoy. But I hope you may want to lose yourself in Paolo's sexy, emotional world. So here's a quick re-cap of the five stories in Paolo's series.

Flaunt It - book #1
He’ll put her on display, if that’s what it takes to keep her…

Risk It - book #2
Time to put out…or get out.

Birthday Girl - book #3
It’s not the age. It’s the attitude—and a healthy dose of kink.

Plaything - book #4
One taste of everything she ever wanted…how can she walk away?

Playing for Real - book #5
There’s no safe word strong enough for this power play date…

Excerpt from Plaything:

“This is Paolo’s Playhouse. How may I help you?”

The warm male voice and its lyrical accent—Spanish? Italian? Greek?—nearly melted her into a puddle on her kitchen floor. She couldn’t seem to speak as she imagined a dark, exotic man at the other end of the line. One of her favorite fantasy images, strong masculine hands holding her wrists, sprang to her mind. She knew her fantasy lovers from now on would speak with this incredible voice.

“Hello? Is someone there?”

“Yes.” Her voice cracked and she had to swallow before she could speak again. “Yes, I’m here.”

“Wonderful. How may I help you?”

Her knees began to shake and she sank into the chair. “I…I saw your ad.” She swallowed again. She was an intelligent businesswoman, why could she not form a coherent sentence?

“And do you perhaps have a fantasy I could help you with?”

If he was half as sexy as his voice, he could help her with anything. She nearly let a nervous giggle slip out, but this suddenly seemed too important to joke about. “Bondage.” It was harder than she thought it would be to say it out loud.

“Ah, of course. And do you prefer the caress of the ropes or the weight of the chains?”

She shivered and rubbed the cord still hugging her wrist, pulled it tighter and felt the answering tug in her core. “Um, ropes. I think.”

There was silence on the other end of the line. What was wrong? Surely he couldn’t be shocked like her old boyfriend had been.

“What is your name?” he asked after a moment.

“Julianne.”

“I heard some hesitation in your voice. Tell me, Julianne. Have you ever been bound before?”

The words finally burst from her lips, the admission she’d not allowed herself to say for so long. “No. That’s why I’m calling. I want to know what it’s like. I think I need to know.”

“Are you certain?” he asked softly. “Do you really want to allow another person to bind your body? To take away all your control?” His voice became even softer, almost seductive in tone. “Do you want to allow him to enjoy your body in any way he desires and in return, bring you to an intense level of satisfaction you have perhaps never been able to attain before?”

As he spoke, her body pulsed with awareness. He summed up her feelings perfectly. His sensual words conjured up the desperate need that had been buried deep within her. “Yes. Exactly.” Tears sprang to her eyes. “Can you help me?”

“Of course. That is why we are here. Will you be bringing your partner with you?”

“No. I don’t have anyone.” That sounded pathetic. “I mean, I don’t have anyone I want to…you know, tie me up and take me.” There was that silence again. “Is that a problem? The ad said—”

“No, of course it is no problem. I simply want to be certain to match you with the right person.”

“Oh, I didn’t think about that.” She hadn’t really given a thought to the other half of the equation. To the person who would be tying her up. She’d been too focused on her own needs. “Of course, you have to match me up with someone who wants to…um…who wants to…”

“Who wants to tie up a willing woman,” he completed. There was a touch of amusement in his voice and Julianne had the sudden wish to see his smile. “You are in luck. There will be someone here tomorrow night who has need of a bondage toy.”

Bondage toy? She shivered.

“Can you come tomorrow night at seven?”

“Tomorrow?” So soon? But would putting it off be any better? “Yes. All right. Tomorrow.”

Excerpt: Her Royal Masquerade

Hubby and I are on our way home from visiting friends and family in Georgia and Florida. Next week I'll share some pictures and stories with you from our travels. But since I'm still on the road, I'm posting an excerpt from Her Royal Masquerade, book 1 in my Her Royal Romance series.

Mia’s skin tingled as Vittorio continued to play with her hair and softly brushed her face with his once again. They were barely moving, not doing much more than swaying in each other’s arms to the rhythm of the music. His breath was warm along her cheek. He murmured a few words she didn’t recognize. Soft words with a silky, sensual feel to them, just like the lips that were now teasing along her jaw line.

Her breath caught when his lips found hers. He drew them lightly across hers, not a real kiss, but the hint of one, the promise of more, if only they weren’t in the middle of a crowd. Mia shifted in his arms, moving her body against his. She found his hard erection and her body softened, moistened.

What was she doing?

“Hot,” she gasped, stumbling out of his embrace. “So hot. I’m sorry. I need some air.”

“Of course.” Vittorio wrapped his arm around her waist and the couples on the dance floor stopped and parted for them. He led her to a French door in a bank of floor-to-ceiling windows that opened onto a softly lit patio.

Mia rushed over to the waist high railing constructed of rough-hewn stone like the rest of the palace. Darkness had fallen while she’d been inside. Lights from the towns around them sparkled below. Stars in the inky sky twinkled above. Once again she had the feeling of stepping into a fairy tale.

The air was warm, even outside, with barely a breeze to lift the moisture from her skin. She took a few decidedly un-princesslike gulps of air, trying to calm the edgy arousal that burned within her.

“Are you alright?” Vittorio asked. He stepped up to her and the heat from his body didn’t help her at all. “Do you need to sit down? Something cold to drink?”

“I’ll be okay. Just give me a minute. I guess I’m just not used to the climate here.” She was so hot. She began to tug down one of the opera-length gloves. Would it be a serious breach of conduct if she whipped them off and threw them over the railing?

“Allow me,” he said, his voice suddenly a little deeper, a little slower than it had been a moment before. He took her hand in his, stretched out her arm in front of him. He ran his free hand up, starting at the palm of the hand resting in his. Slowly, so slowly, he moved his hand up her arm. There might as well not have been the fabric of the glove between them, she felt his touch so strongly. When his fingers reached the top of the glove, he didn’t immediately begin to remove it. Instead, he teased the bare skin of her upper arm with his fingers. “So soft,” he whispered, holding her gaze. He swept his hand up to her bare shoulders and cupped her neck, skimming his thumb along her collar bone, just above the diamonds Birgitte had trusted her with. “This beautiful necklace is not half as lovely as you,” he murmured.

She couldn’t speak, could only offer a shaky smile in response. He was holding her hand, her throat. Could he feel her trembling beneath his touch?

“But you are hot. It is our weather, no doubt. I can help you with this problem, I think.” Vittorio began to slowly peel the glove from her arm, dragging his fingers along her skin as he did. He focused all his attention on her arm, as if it were the most important thing to him at the moment.

What would it be like to have that single-minded attention focused on her while making love? Even as Vittorio stripped off her glove, her body heated further with the image of his long, powerful frame moving over her, entering her.

Mia imagined he would take command of her body, ensuring that he pleasured her with all the skill he surely possessed. She couldn’t help but wonder if he would look as amazing out of the expensively tailored clothing as he did at this moment. Of course, he would. Everything about Vittorio was first class. He would fit right in with Birgitte. Mia wasn’t close to being in the same league.

Vittorio began to strip off the second glove, giving it every bit as much attention as he had given to the first one. His fingers strummed along her arm as he tugged at the satin. Her newly bared arm hung at her side, her fingers closed into a fist so she didn’t reach out and tangle them in his thick hair.

“Don’t you have breezes in Mezzano?” she asked, her voice rough with desire. She hoped he would think it was the heat that affected her so. He still held one of her hands in his. She lifted the other hand to wave in front of her face, trying to stir the muggy air.

“Ah, my poor cara. It is still and humid this evening. Be assured we have our share of wind and rain.” The second glove was off now and Vittorio released her hand. How ridiculous it was to feel bereft at the loss of his touch. He folded the gloves and tucked them into the pocket of his jacket.

Mia lifted her heavy hair off her neck to try to cool off for a moment. Maybe she should have worn it up. “I know I should enjoy the warm weather. Right now in Stagatland I would have to be bundled up in a coat and scarf and boots to stand outside.”

Vittorio swept his gaze over her. “And it would truly be a shame to cover the amazing view I have at this moment.”
She let her hair fall down her back. “I suspect you have had a lot of practice with those charming lines,” Mia said, letting the amusement show in her voice. Still, she soaked up the compliment, let the pleasure flow over her like a warm spring rain.

He took her hand, lifted it to his lips. This time the kiss to the back of her bare hand sent fireworks bursting through her system. “It’s only the truth, Birgitte.”

Hearing her cousin’s name fall from Vittorio’s lips was like a handful of snow smacking her in the face. Of course. She had to remember she wasn’t Mia Holmberg tonight. She’d almost forgotten she was playing a part.

Excerpt Playing for Real

I'm traveling for the next three weeks, getting out of the cold and visiting friends and family. I'm looking forward to enjoying some warm weather for the first time since last October. So today I'm sharing an excerpt from my most recent release, Playing for Real.

Julianne was more than a little scared at how fast she’d submitted to Paolo. How fast she gave over her body to him. How much she loved it. How desperately she wanted more. As frightening as it was, something soul-deep told her it was right.

But a voice in the back of her mind screamed out a warning. She couldn’t let this go on too long, couldn’t let herself get used to his control over her.

Or get used to him taking care of her.

She would always take care of herself. Julianne had made that vow years ago when she saw how lost her mother had been when Julianne’s father walked out on them. Her mother had no backbone and no skills to make it on her own. Julianne made sure she’d been able to take care of herself from an early age. She might agree to being a sexual submissive, but she’d never allow anyone else to have a say over the rest of her life.

After Paolo left, she wandered into her bedroom. She wished she could call Stacey and talk things out with her, but for all the time they’d spent together, they’d never talked about sex. Julianne could never tell her that Paolo gave her an orgasm while she was sprawled across his lap. Or that he’d tied her up with ropes. Bound her with chains. She’d never admit to anyone she wanted more of that. More bondage. More sex. Yes, more submitting to his dominance.

How could she ever make this work?

She kicked off her shoes and carried them into her closet to place them back in their shoe box. Julianne stared at the rows of boxes she’d arranged to keep things neat and tidy in the small space. To keep things where they belonged, so they didn’t interfere with the other stuff and make a mess.

And she knew she had her answer.

She could have it both ways. She could give up control to Paolo sexually and still keep the rest of her life her own. All she had to do was keep her time with him tucked in a neat little box, completely separate from her real life.

Have a great week!

Visual Inspiration

I resisted Pinterest for a long time. What a time suck, I thought. Spending hours looking at pictures when I should be writing? It sounded more like a tool of procrastination.

Then I discovered I could set up boards for each book I was writing. Add visual cues. Research settings. And when I needed to refresh my memory, the board was only a click away.

When I started doing research on the Tuscan area of Italy, an area similar to where My Royal Bodyguard was set, I wanted to find pictures of small villages. Sprawling landscape. Villas and flower boxes. Bars and markets. Olive trees. Platinum rings. And kisses in the rain.

I got it all with Pinterest. And the cool thing is that it's there to share with anyone who would be interested. I'd love you to check it out. And you can follow me if you like. I'm setting up boards now for all my stories.

If you've read Her Royal Bodyguard (Her Royal Romance book #2), you'll see many images you'll recognize from the story. And if you haven't read it yet, the images just might be enough of a tease to prompt you to give it a try.

And for one more tease, here's a little excerpt from Her Royal Bodyguard:

As soon as they left the dress shop, Rico slipped his arm around the princess’s waist and Angelina melted against him. She couldn’t help it. She feared she was already embracing this fantasy too much. But they only took two steps when Rico pressed her up against the wall of the neighboring building. She gasped in surprise and looked up at him, expecting a smile. A kiss, perhaps. The dark frown on his face was not what she thought she’d see.

“You are supposed to keep a low profile,” he growled. “Not dress in something…” he brushed his fingers along the fabric skimming her thighs, “made to draw attention. And those shoes. What were you thinking?”

“I was thinking that if the shoes drew all the attention, if the dress looked this good, then no one would bother looking at my face.”

“No chance, Princess.”

She pouted. “I guess I’m not as good at this undercover work as I thought.” In all honesty, she hadn’t been thinking about avoiding detection at all when she chose this outfit. She’d been thinking about Rico and what he would think of the dresses she’d tried on. She’d thought about how her legs would look in those shoes. She’d wanted to get his attention. “Sorry. I can go back and change.”

His expression softened. “No. It’s okay. If Gina didn’t recognize you, we are probably safe.”

Angelina placed her hand on his cheek. The rough stubble on his jaw tickled her palm. And she liked it. “Thank you for looking out for me.” He opened his mouth to respond and she slid her hand across his lips to silence him. “And don’t you dare say it’s your job.”

“But—”

She leaned forward, fisted her hands in his shirt and kissed him to stop the words from making it out into the air. She knew she shouldn’t pretend that Rico wasn’t here at her father’s command. But she didn’t want to think about the fact that he didn’t necessarily want to be pressed up against her body. That he didn’t want to kiss her and call her Lucia and pretend to be her husband.

This time was hers. For the first time Angelina was free to simply be a young woman. Right now, she wasn’t a member of royalty under scrutiny every moment. She didn’t have to worry about dodging cameras and pretending not to care that she had no privacy. For the moment she could kiss a man on a public street and know that a picture wouldn’t appear in a tabloid tomorrow.

So with every ounce of freedom she possessed, the princess of Mezzano held tight to her bodyguard’s soft cotton shirt and drank him in. She let her heart race, her body heat. She let go of all the restrictions and expectations she’d always had to deal with because of her title, and for a moment, a young woman named Angelina simply kissed a man called Rico.

He moaned, his breath mingling with hers. He threaded his fingers in her hair. When the sunglasses still propped on top of her head got in the way, Rico slipped them off. The bag holding her clothes bounced against her shoulder. She didn’t care. Rico leaned into her, his hot body pressing her into the hard, rough stone at her back. She didn’t care.

They might only have today. If the palace security team was as good as she’d always thought they were, as she knew they were, the guilty party could be in custody right now. She and Rico could be turning around and returning home at any time.

Her fists tightened on his shirt. She wasn’t ready to give him up yet.
