Satellite of Love by Christa Maurice on Sale!

Christa Maurice's contemporary rock star romance is on sale for only 99 cents from Jan 29 thru March 5th. Check out the first book in her Drawn To the Rhythm series at this low, low price!

Reluctantly on her way to a blind date, second grade teacher Maureen detours into her mechanic's garage because her brakes are squeaking. Her regular mechanic isn't there but his very intriguing brother Michael is. Michael tells her that he can't let her drive home with her brakes in that condition and offers to take her out to dinner in his 1972 Plymouth Satellite. Maureen can't believe how instantly and powerfully she's attracted to this grease monkey and neither can any of her friends, but since he's only going to be in town for a week, she doesn't want to waste an instant.

Except that grease monkey, is no grease monkey. He's Bear D'Amato, rock'n'roll drummer and in a week he's headed back to get ready for a world tour with his band, Touchstone. When he first meets Maureen, he just wants to go out with her a few times like a normal guy, but as the relationship deepens, he realizes he wants more than just a couple of dates. He wants a lifetime.
Maureen is shocked by his revelation, but she realizes she wants a lifetime too.

Now all they have to do is convince the rest of the world.

“Did you have sex with that girl?”
Michael glanced over his shoulder and frowned. “Maybe. I think so.”
Maureen tried to draw a deep breath, but it caught on the steel bands around her lungs. She didn't expect him to have been a saint, but to not remember? Another steel band tightened around her head and the room went a little flat and sideways.
“Listen baby, those girls don't mean anything. When you're out on the road they're everywhere. It's like exercise.” He flushed.
“You weren't jogging with her.”
“No.” Michael slouched.
“And you're going to be out on the road soon.” Maureen folded her arms to keep her body from flying apart. How had she gotten mixed up in this?
“Yeah, but it's different now. Why go out for hamburger when I've got steak at home?” He stroked her cheek.
“What if you get hungry while you're out?”
“Baby, I'm not going to.” He put his hands on her neck and leaned his forehead against hers. Her view shrank to just him. Just his eyes. “I love you, Maureen. Ever since I met you, everything's been different. You're all I need.”
“What if the hamburger is particularly insistent?” Cyndy looked like the type to take no as a challenge. And there were thousands of girls like her. Maureen bet there were a dozen in the building right now. None of them would think twice about having sex with him. They might not even think of it as cheating. He might not think of it as cheating. “If I'm going to marry you, I need to know you're going to be faithful.”
“I promise you I will give new meaning to the word faithful.”
“That's what I'm afraid of.” Maureen bit her lip. If he cheated on her all of these people were going to know. They would be laughing about how na├»ve she'd been, believing he wouldn't be with another woman when so many willing ones were available.
All she could see was his eyes and eyes never lie.
“You have nothing to fear. I am forever yours. Faithfully.”

Christa Maurice spends a lot of time lost in imagination. When not writing, she loves to travel and has spent several years living overseas. She spent four years living in Abu Dhabi where the temperature was always hot, the sunrise and sunset were pretty stable year ‘round and she could go weeks without speaking to a man who wasn’t selling her groceries. You know that happens to a woman living in what amounts to a harem situation? She spends a lot of time talking about shoes and thinking about men. Which brings us right back to being lost in imagination…

Loving the White Bear
Jan 2017
Rob MacMathan and his brother and a friend run the White Bear Wilderness Adventures Tour, White Bear, where polar bear shifters have staked a claim. This is their last tour group of the season, but when photojournalist, Alicia Raycroft, touches Rob and envisions what he sees, though her paranormal abilities deal with psychometry, whereas he’s clairvoyant, they’re both stunned. He witnesses a fight with an enraged grizzly; she sees a polar trying to eat her, which he interprets to mean he’s wearing his polar bear coat and trying to save her. In no way can he reveal the truth to her. Yet, just that connection between them pushes them to go beyond his self-imposed boundaries with both a client and a human.
Alicia is fascinated with Rob, not only because he’s rugged and handsome and just as interested in her, he intrigues her like no other man has ever done when her touching him reveals he has abilities like she has. She envisions a white bear coming for her as snow swirls about her in the Alaskan wilderness, yet she’s determined to take this trek even if it’s her last. She believes fate is predetermined and nothing she will do can change the outcome anyway. Alicia and Rob are already headed down one dangerous path, so why not risk a chance at love too? Only he has more dark secrets he’s unwilling to share
Galaxy Warrior
January 2017
Passionate embraces men and women
He’s a fighter pilot fighting the good fight in the Great Galaxy War, but when his spacecraft’s navigation is sabotaged and he’s stuck on an inhospitable desert planet awaiting repairs to his ship, he believes one woman might make his stay on the planet more than…hospitable. But the woman isn’t like any that Quaid Lassiter has ever met. She has secrets that can get him killed.
Zaira Cole is a shapeshifter, a pacifist, and is helping her scientist brother to turn the desert planet green. Her people must find the scrolls to give the High Council legitimacy and solicit help from Quaid Lassiter to train their pilots to fight in the war headed their way when they’ve always been a neutral planet. But she wants him for more than that. It’s mating season, she’s just turned of age, and she’s selected him for her mate. Now all she has to do is convince the Prince of Orion, he wants the same. And so the battle begins.
I’ll add links as I get them. I’m working on the novella for Heart of the Wolf now, then back to Flight of the White Wolf!
Have a terrific day!

So you want to write a novel? Here's how!

As an award-winning author of eleven novels and novellas, I often get asked by aspiring writers what books they should read before undertaking their own novel.

There are many books for the different stages of your writing life, but here are few of the top ones I would recommend:

Inspirational books:
On Writing - Stephen King
This is the Story of a Happy Marriage - Ann Patchett
How I Write - Janet Evanovich
Bird by Bird - Anne Lamott

How-To craft books:
Goal, Motivation and Conflict - Debra Dixon
Save the Cat - Blake Snyder
The Writers Journey: Mythic Structure for Writers - Christopher Vogler
How to Write a Damn Good Novel - James N. Frey
Story Genius - Lisa Cron
Outlining Your Novel - K.M. Weiland
Plot & Structure - James Scott Bell
The Author Training Manual - Nina Amir
Romancing the Beat - Gwen Hayes
Steering the Craft - Ursula LeGuin
Writing Down the Bones - Natalie Goldberg
Techniques of the Selling Writer - Dwight Swain
Writing Deep Scenes: Plotting your story through action, emotion, and theme - Martha Alderson and Jordan Rosenfeld

For help polishing your story after it’s written:
Fiction First Aid - Raymond Obstfeld
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers - Renni Brown and Dave King
Writing Active Setting: The Complete How-to Guide - Mary Buckham
The Emotional Thesaurus - Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi
The Story Grid: What Good Editors Know - Shawn Coyne
The 38 Most Common Fiction Writing Mistakes - Jack Bickham
How to Write Dazzling Dialogue: The Fastest Way to Improve Any Manuscript - James Scott Bell
Writing Subtext: How to craft subtext that develops characters, boosts suspense, and reinforces theme - Elizabeth Lyon

There is an endless supply of books that will teach you how to write, but here’s a secret all authors know:  the best way to learn how to structure a story is to pick up your all-time favorite novel and reread it! What did you love about the story? (Characters? Emotion? The unique setting?) Your own book will need that, too. What kept you reading late into the night? (Plot twists? Non-stop action? A black moment where you thought all was lost for the characters in the book?) Consider including those elements in your own story!

By perusing your favorite novel with an author’s eye instead of a reader’s eye, you can learn a lot about how to write, simply through osmosis. (And have fun while doing it.) Everyone has a novel inside them, so take a deep breath, sit yourself down at your keyboard, and start writing yours!

And let me know if you have any questions J

A Very Jaguar Christmas and What's Coming Up Next!

9781492621805-300 (2)

Demetria  is feeling blue, but she and Tammy, Everett’s sister, get together for drinks and movies, but when one of the ladies drops a glass on the floor, Everett comes over to ensure the two of them are okay. So much for the start of his vacation. But he’s fine with it, as long as it affords him the chance to see Demetria again. Little does he know, the next morning when he gets a call from his mother at her jaguar daycare, their whole jaguar shifter world will change forever and he and Demetria will be given the assignment that will challenge them to the end in A Very Jaguar Christmas.

Excerpt from A Very Jaguar Christmas

He checked again on Demetria, but she hadn’t moved, so he went into the kitchen to begin Operation: Cleanup.
Even though he would have been at home still playing his game and killing the dragons plaguing their world, he was glad to be here as a brother, a friend, and a Golden Claw agent, whose mission was to take care of jaguars in need. Still, he’d never believed he would be serving as a maid.
He was nearly done mopping the floor when he saw something move out of the corner of his eye and turned to look. Demetria was leaning against the wall next to the china cabinet, looking half asleep, her dark hair in curls about her shoulders.
“Are you okay? Do you need something to help settle a hangover?” he asked, continuing to mop the floor.
She snorted. “What are you doing?” Her words were still fuzzy.
“Cleaning up after the party and ensuring Tammy gets to work tomorrow. You don’t want to see Martin when he gets a call that one of his trainers didn’t show up first thing in the morning. Or hear how upset David would be if he learns he had to be out training all night and his mate doesn’t come into work the next morning to teach. She had just…vanished.”
Demetria sighed. “Got it.”
“Why don’t you get some sleep, if you can? I’ll leave first thing in the morning.”
She nodded and turned, and nearly fell.
He sighed, set the mop against the counter, and stalked toward her. She held up her hand to ward him off. “I can do it.”
“Yeah, and you’ll make it by the time I leave in the morning.” He gently scooped her up in his arms, feeling way too much like he was taking her to his bed, and carried her down the hall to the room she indicated was her bedroom, putting her in her own bed. He covered her up, and, well hell, kissed her cheek. Which is what he had wanted to do before they ended their time together last night. Well, kiss her lips, hug her, more.
Her eyes widened a little, he smiled, and said good night. Then he went back to his maid duties.
When he was done, he removed his clothes except for his boxer briefs and stretched out on the couch, covering himself with the afghan, wrapping himself in Demetria’s scent, and thinking this was as close as he might ever get to heaven.

Creative Market Free Goods--Galaxy Warrior, Anyone?

They usually have a font or two that are free, and a myriad of other stuff. What's great about Creative Market is if you lose your hard drive, you can always go back to the site where you had your free font or anything else you've downloaded before, free or otherwise, and it allows you to re-download. I've picked up fonts, overlays, a number of things from their site, and they can be very reasonable. Plus, if the people with the items update them, you get an automatic notice about the updates.
2-bluebirds-on-roof-old-house-206This is a picture I took at the old house of two bluebirds sitting on the roof.  I had a whole swarm of them trying to get bugs one day. I had never seen bluebirds there before. This was shot through a window and screen with the sun overhead at an odd angle, so not the best of shots.
bluebird-baby-giraffe-900-bokeh-004This shows the difference between what I could capture with the new home, clear glass still, so not shooting from outside, better lighting, gray day.

2,000 on the new book, 78,000 to go.

It's still cold, cold, cold.

With the upcoming unscheduled release of Galaxy Warrior,
one of my friends asked: What about the next fortuneteller's book?

A rags to riches fairy tale where a fortune telling can spell doom…

Katrina Landry is not your everyday fortune teller. She’s a substitute teacher who longs to work at it full time. But when she substitutes for her cousin at her fortune telling booth at the fair, Katrina meets a man who she foresees is in danger. So what’s a girl supposed to do but sneak into a by-invitation-only dance and save the TX Stud’s life?

Prescott Worthington hasn’t had this much fun in a long time when on a whim he takes his girlfriend to the fair where Sascha the Sensation predicts he will have twins, and that his girlfriend will find someone else. But when the woman shows up at the dance with some nonsense about saving his life, he’s totally irritated and totally bewitched. Maybe she can bring a little magic into his life.

She insists someone’s trying to kill him and he thinks it’s her boyfriend…only Prescott has no intention of giving up the woman who he’s sure needs his protection. And a whole lot more.

Deadly Fortunes was the first. And she has this wild cousin whose book I was writing next. I often did this, started sequels to books in the hopes of selling the series. But when I couldn't get picked up by a publisher for the first book, I'd just set the sequel aside and work on something else. I had one title for it, but I think to tie it in with Deadly Fortunes, I might call it Deadly Mis-Fortunes. She's also a fortune teller with real psychic powers also. It's already 25,000 words long. Hmmmm. When I'm starting out on a new book, it's like ack, so many words to write. The draw to the Dark Side is powerful... write the book that I have an upcoming deadline on, or write the book that is a good way on its way to being done???

Okay, okay, so I can fight the Dark Side and I will keep working on Flight of the White Wolf, but...maybe I'll finish up Deadly Mis-Fortunes after that. We'll see. :) It depends on where my muse will take me. It's been bugging me to write Chet's Cougar Christmas story.

Be sure to follow me on BookBub where I have new release information AND when I can get a deal, I'll have specials on a book. The Dark Fae is going on sale for 99 cents! It's the first time I've been able to get one of my YA on BookBub.

Just be sure to follow me, and put in your preferences for the kinds of books you're interested in hearing about!

Okay, I'm off to write and get my word count. The rule is: if I write, word count goes up. It might need to be changed a lot, but the truth is, when I have something on paper--it's easier to change than when I have nothing on paper. :) Isn't that amazing how that works?

Have a super, wonderful day!
