Since Halloween is just a couple weeks away, I thought I'd pull out one of my first releases, my only Halloween themed story, to feature today. Nothing to Fear was my first release from Ellora's Cave, although not the first story I sold to them. And it was my first BDSM story.
A lot of firsts for a little Quickie.
Blurb:
Mason Blake's dark good looks and domineering personality give Kelly Long all sorts of forbidden fantasies that frighten her. When she agrees to help out at the community Halloween haunted house, she never expects to be tied to a bed, playing damsel in distress to Mason’s masked, whip-wielding villain.
Kelly can’t run away from Mason this time. He knows she’s fighting her sexual needs and he hopes that a few hours of playing out her fantasies with him will prove to her that bondage - and Mason - are nothing to fear.
Excerpt:
Kelly froze in the doorway as a tall masked man, dressed from head to toe in black, stepped away from the bed. A black hood covered his entire head except for holes for his eyes, nose and mouth. The sleeveless black T-shirt clung to his sculpted chest and his muscled arms were tanned. Black pants and shoes completed the intimidating outfit. Her heart pounded so loudly she couldn’t hear what Lisa was saying. “Dress? Did you say something about a dress?”
Lisa rolled her eyes. “You can change behind that screen in the corner. The dress is on the chair behind it.”
No way was she going to be taking off her clothes in the same room with…who was this masked man? This tall masked man dressed like a…a…
Kelly whipped around to look at Lisa. Wasn’t she supposed to be her friend? “What’s wrong with what I have on?”
“Jeans and sweatshirt just don’t project the same image as a dress,” Lisa said, already walking toward the hallway, ignoring Kelly’s pleading look. “Gotta run. You and Mason can work everything else out.” She glanced at her watch. “You’ve got less than half an hour before the first group will be coming through.” Then she was out the door, shutting it behind her.
The slam of the door echoed in the silence. Kelly turned around slowly and looked up into the deep, dark eyes staring at her out of the mask. Of course, it was Mason. Her hands shook as she clasped them together in front of her. Oh God, it was Mason.
He slid the mask off his head. His eyes were what had first attracted her to him, and they were still like melted dark chocolate. His head was shaved smooth as always, a dark shadowy hint of hair on his head and jaw. The diamond stud in his ear twinkled beneath the light from the chandelier.
“Hello, Kelly.” His deep voice was a touch amused. Well, she didn’t find anything amusing in the situation. He was the one man whose mere touch frightened her because it made her desire things she shouldn’t want. Made her crave things she didn’t understand. Just a glance from him made her weak in the knees and made her want to drop to her knees before him.
And right now the thought of being tied to that bed with Mason standing over her froze her to the spot at the end of the bed. She avoided his eye, but in doing so focused on the bed, the black velvet bedspread, the tall thick bedposts at each corner. Would he stretch her tight when he tied her to the bedposts? Or would he give her wiggle room? And the thought of her body wiggling beneath Mason’s heated gaze made her shiver. But was it from fear? Or excitement?
“You better get changed.”

BDSM Backlist - Nothing to Fear
One of the great things about e-books is that they never go out of print. With all the recent mainstream interest in 50 Shades of Grey, I thought this would be a good time to remind readers of the BDSM releases I’ve had over the last few years. Then I realized I really have too many to list in a single post, so I’ve decided do BDSM Backlist once a month for the next few months. It's been fun to go back and remember these stories, re-read the excerpts and think, hey, these are good! :)
My very first release from Ellora’s Cave, Nothing to Fear, has a BDSM theme. This Halloween set Quickie is still one of my most popular. I wish all my stories would come as easily as this one did. Once I had the hero, the heroine and the premise, the story practically wrote itself. Yeah. I really wish they would all flow like that.
Here’s the blurb:
Mason Blake's dark good looks and domineering personality give Kelly Long all sorts of forbidden fantasies that frighten her. When she agrees to help out at the community Halloween haunted house, she never expects to be tied to a bed, playing damsel in distress to Mason’s masked, whip-wielding villain.
Kelly can’t run away from Mason this time. He knows she’s fighting her sexual needs and he hopes that a few hours of playing out her fantasies with him will prove to her that bondage - and Mason - are nothing to fear.
And a little excerpt for you:
“I have to tie you to the bed now,” he said smoothly, picking up the first length of rope. He lifted her right arm and ran his hand along her skin from shoulder to wrist, his fingers causing hot shivers to run in their wake. His fingers easily ringed her wrist. “I have to make it tight enough that it won’t come undone while you’re thrashing about.”
The thought of thrashing about underneath him made a hot flush sweep over her body. She swallowed. “Do what you have to do.”
The rope wasn’t as rough as she thought it would be. He wound the other end around the tall bedpost, and gradually stretched her arm almost straight up and to the side, then tied it off.
“Okay, give it a pull. Will it come loose?”
Kelly yanked with all her might, but it didn’t give a bit. Mason nodded and glanced at his watch.
He grabbed another length of rope and ran his hand down her leg, starting up at her hip, smoothing out the skirt of her dress as he went along. When he reached the bare skin of her calf, she shivered at his touch. He reached her ankle and lifted her leg a bit, looking at the sparkly pumps with the high heels. “Hot.”
She wanted to blurt out that they weren’t her shoes. She’d never owned anything so blatantly sexy. She’d been raised to never draw attention to herself like that. But she couldn’t force any words out of her mouth at the moment. She could only feel his hands on her leg, the rope slowly wrapping around her ankle, the gentle tug as her leg was stretched out and Mason secured it to the bedpost at the bottom of the bed.
He slowly rounded the bottom of the bed. She may have been covered with this cotton dress, but she felt naked as his gaze roamed over her body. He caught her left foot with his hand, lifting it from the mattress and rubbing his hand over the high instep, the arched top. “I love you in these shoes. You never wore shoes like this when you were with me.”
“They’re Lisa’s shoes. I don’t own a pair of shoes like this.”
“I’ll buy you a pair.”

Nothing To Fear
Happy Halloween!
I've never feared Halloween, but I've never been a big fan of the holiday. Never was really into dressing up or dragging my kids around in lousy weather to beg candy from the neighbors.
But this year...this year we got talked into dressing up with a group of friends and going out to the local Legion to compete in their Halloween costume contest. Of course, there was dancing and drinking involved. And a lot of laughter as well. You see, we dressed up as crabs!

When the costume parade started (yes, we had to parade around the room twice!) we were wrapped up in a net (black snow fence) and hauled around by a guy dressed up as a lobsterman. We won best group prize!
Of course, the prize wasn't the point. It was getting together with friends and not being afraid to be absolutely ridiculous. And having a great time doing it! I enjoyed Halloween a lot more this year.
And as long as we're talking about Halloween, I'll take a moment to mention my only story that is holiday related. It was my very first release and it still remains one of my best sellers, so if you haven't read it yet, and like a little bondage with your community Haunted House, you might want to check out Nothing to Fear.

And here's an excerpt:
Kelly’s heart pounded as Lisa led her up the long, steep staircase with its intricately carved spindles. The old Bartholomew mansion was the perfect venue for the haunted house, with its many rooms and dark, old-fashioned décor. There was a rumor that this house on the hill had been a bordello in the old days.
“You just have to scream your head off whenever the door is opened,” Lisa was saying.
“What?”
Lisa sighed. “Pay attention, hon. I have to get everyone else set up too.”
“Sorry.”
“We’ll be taking groups through the house one at a time. They’ll have to wait in the spider web room. Cool, huh? When it’s really busy, you could be on every fifteen minutes or so. I’m going to be leading each group through, telling scary stories to lead up to each room. The doors will be closed until I open them. So when your door is opened, you need to scream for help at the top of your lungs and the villain will charge the door with his weapon and the group will scream and I’ll close the door again. Nothing to it. You just have to be ready when I slam the door open.”
“Got it.” Tied to a bed. Straining at the ropes. Begging for help. Why was she getting all excited at the thought? Kelly knew it was wrong. She should be frightened. She was frightened…by how aroused she was at the thought. By the way her nipples were prickling. The way her skin tingled. Her panties dampened.
They passed by the first door at the top of the stairs. Looking down the long, straight hall with all the doorways, Kelly could believe the bordello stories.
“Matt Dunn and Kyle Parker are ghosts in the first room,” Lisa said. “You’ve got the second room on the left.”
“Wait, Lisa,” Kelly called out. “Who’s going to be the villain?” Who was she going be shut up with? Tied up with?
But Lisa was already pushing the door open. Faded red flocked wallpaper covered the walls. A four-poster bed sat in the middle of the room, covered with a black bedspread. The floor was worn wood. “Hey, you look great!” But Lisa wasn’t talking to Kelly, she was talking to someone already in the room.
Backlist Eye Candy
It's another Eye Candy week at Fierce Romance! Sitting at my desk, looking at the awesome wall of covers my hubby made for me, I thought I should share some of the eye candy I get to look at every day. :)
I've been lucky to get a lot of hot male chests on my covers. Like this cover from my very first release from Ellora's Cave, Nothing to Fear.

And how about this sexy pirate from my eRed Sage release, Quinn's Curse?

And how about the abs on this sexy photographer hero on the cover of another release from eRed Sage, Dark Angel?

Red Sage has given me some excellent eye candy. Here's the big, bad Wolfe from The Better to Eat You With.

And I know this post is titled Backlist Eye Candy, but I couldn't resist including the cover from my upcoming release from Samhain, Flaunt It. You can't get much better than the back view of my bartender hero.

Actually, I'm missing three covers on my wall. I'm going to have to give my hubby a nudge to print, frame and hang my last three covers. It's not only inspiring, it's an awesome dose of daily eye candy.

Autumn Settings
I live in the northeast, where autumn, at its best, gives us a brilliant show. Leaves in magificent shades of red and orange and gold fill the trees. After a crisp morning, the days warm up to pleasant walking weather, and the nights have cooled down enough to make sleeping easier.

Those are the fall days I love. I throw on my favorite sweater and the fallen leaves rustle as I walk and stir up that earthy scent. I realize that out of all the stories I've written, only two have taken place in autumn. The Passion-Minded Professor takes place during the college's first semester. And Nothing to Fear was a Halloween story. I'm afraid both of these stories took place in autumn by default. Not because I love autumn.

See, autumn in the northeast can be wonderful, but autumn at its worst is downright miserable. The cold rains that strip the beautiful leaves from the trees. The increasingly darker nights. The endless raking. And the knowledge that winter is right around the corner.
Still, that's no reason to set the majority of my stories during the summer. Just because when the weather is warm my hero can admire the heroine in her tiny bikini and sex outdoors is much more enjoyable. What about curling up by a cozy fire? Rolling around in a pile of crisp colorful leaves? Okay, so it doesn't sound quite the same as a roll in the hay, but believe me, it would be a lot more comfortable. And that would only be possible in the autumn, in a place where tons of leaves fall from the trees to blanket the ground in brilliant color.
So now that I think about it, I didn't set those two stories in autumn by default, but because that setting was the proper one for those stories. The story dictates the setting, the location and time of year. Neither one of those stories could have been shoehorned into any other season. None of our stories should be.
So I guess that means I need to come up with a story where a roll in a pile of leaves is essential. :) Then I'd have to set it in the autumn.
How about you? Authors, do you think about the seasons when you set up your stories? And readers, do you notice the season when you're reading?

A Ghost and a Haunted House
This is Halloween Week. A spooky week of ghosts and witches and goblins. Costumes and trick or treating and haunted houses. I thought I'd take a peek at my backlist and feature a couple stories that fit right in with this week's theme.
Ghosts - Quinn's Curse from eRed Sage:

Cursed to wander Logan Point, lusty pirate Nathaniel Quinn must resist the call of the sea. But nobody said anything about resisting a beautiful woman like Miranda Kent, the newest owner of the lighthouse. So what if their love is doomed? Doom is familiar territory for a ghost like Nathaniel....
Where do bad boys go when they die? If the bad boy is a pirate captain, he goes to shore.
Cursed to haunt dry land for three hundred years, forbidden to touch the ocean he loves, Nathaniel Quinn’s spirit lingers near the Logan Point Lighthouse until his sentence is served. All he wants is an end to the three hundred year curse so he can haunt the seas instead of the shores.
That’s all he wants, that is, until the day Miranda Kent buys the lighthouse with the intent to turn it into a bed and breakfast. She hopes the presence of a ghost will bring in the tourists, but Quinn has finally found a benefit to his time on land.
She can hear him. See him. Touch him. He may only have a short time remaining at the lighthouse, but at least now he can enjoy it like a sailor on shore leave.
But pleasure turns to impending pain as these doomed lovers discover they’re touching more than each other’s bodies. They’re touching each other’s hearts. The long-awaited end of Quinn’s shore curse might just mean a different kind of curse…
Because an eternity sailing the seas might also be an eternity separated from the woman he loves.
Haunted House - Nothing to Fear from Ellora's Cave

Mason's dark good looks and domineering personality give Kelly all sorts of forbidden fantasies that frighten her. When she agrees to help out at the community Halloween haunted house, she never expects to be tied to a bed, playing damsel in distress to Mason's masked, whip-wielding villain.
Kelly can't run away from Mason this time. He knows she's fighting her sexual needs and he hopes that a few hours of playing out her fantasies with him will prove to her that bondage — and Mason — are nothing to fear.
If you're in the mood for a little Halloween romance, both Quinn's Curse and Nothing to Fear are still available for download.
So do you have any other recommendations for Halloween related romance?

Trick or Treat
Halloween is right around the corner. The holiday for costumes, trick and treating, haunted houses and surprises around the corner. One of the fund raising opportunities in our community are haunted houses or haunted hay fields where people pay good money to be scared as they walk through an old house or ride a hay wagon through a dark farmer's field while people dressed up as ghosts and monsters try to scare you to death.

A couple years ago, Ellora's Cave released a series of Halloween Quickies, the series was called Tricks and Treats. My very first release ever was a Halloween Quickie titled Nothing to Fear. The story takes place in a community haunted house. Here's a blurb:
Mason's dark good looks and domineering personality give Kelly all sorts of forbidden fantasies that frighten her. When she agrees to help out at the community Halloween haunted house, she never expects to be tied to a bed, playing damsel in distress to Mason's masked, whip-wielding villain.
Kelly can't run away from Mason this time. He knows she's fighting her sexual needs and he hopes that a few hours of playing out her fantasies with him will prove to her that bondage — and Mason — are nothing to fear.
Nothing to Fear is still available if you'd like to indulge your desire for a hot Halloween story. You can download it here.

Nothing to Fear is also part of a print anthology called Taboo Treats which includes a total of seven hot Halloween Quickies for your enjoyment. You can check out all the novellas in the anthology and buy a copy here.
And a quick reminder that time is running out if you haven't yet entered the Binding Ties contest for a chance at your very own beginner's bondage kit. You can enter by sending an e-mail to our contest loop:
bindingties-subscribe@yahoogroups.com The winner will be selected on Oct 29th.
Have you ever been to a haunted house or are you like me and don't really want to pay good money to be scared shitless?
