Still on the Road

Just a quick blog post because I actually have some internet access. One thing I've learned while travelling is that even if the hotel advertises free Wi-Fi, that doesn't mean it's reliable! My phone gets the 4G signal, but not my computer.

We've been having a great time, although the driving gets a little old.

One highlight was having lunch with our own Jenna Ives! Why didn't we get come pictures?????

Hubby and I are still traveling for the next week or so. When I get back home, I'll share some of the pictures I DID get.

I did get the cover for The Cottage Next Door, my September Samhain release, in my inbox while I was at my parents' place. Can't wait to share it!

Voluptuous - Cover Reveal

I'm thrilled to be able to share the cover for my upcoming release from Ellora's Cave, Voluptuous. This novella will be part of their Curve Appeal series, all the stories will be featuring plus-size heroines.



Today I'll share a rough blurb to give you all an idea of what the story is about. I'll be sharing the official blurb and release date once they become available.

Blurb:

For plus-sized Meredith Larkin, one-night stands are all she expects. After being stood up by another blind date, she hooks up with sexy coworker Sam Burrows at the local bar. I had a lot of fun writing this story. It was one of those that just seemed to flow from my fingers to the keyboard to the screen. Man, I wish they all came that easily.

Do You Judge a Book By Its Cover?

I see that yesterday, Natasha told you about the JABBIC (Judge A Book By Its Cover) contest. We both have covers entered. (Thank goodness we are not competing against each other!) My Brave Highlander's cover is up for scoring in the Historical Romance Category.

I actually designed and created this cover myself. The background features a photo I took in Durness at Balnakeil Bay, where the story takes place. I loved the sunset over the sea. Perhaps one of the more controversial aspects of this cover is the hero's red hair, which I love. Yes, indeed, Dirk does have red hair! And a passionate personality to go with it. :) You don't see too many red-haired heroes in romance, but Scotland has the highest percent of redheads of any other country. A few of these hot, hunky warriors must have red hair. :)

As for Balnakeil Bay, here is one of the sunset photos I took which inspired the cover.

There are some awesome covers in every category of the JABBIC and I have very stiff competition in the Historical Romance category. I hope you will consider voting if you have time. Scoring in this contest takes a few minutes but to me, it was fun to see all the covers and decide which ones I liked best. Click here to go to the contest.

When you are looking for a book to buy, do you judge the book by its front cover alone, or does the front cover have no influence on you? Or maybe somewhere in between? If a front cover catches your attention, do you then read the back cover blurb or description? Do you have to read an excerpt before you decide to buy? Do you steer clear of books that have covers that don't appeal to you, or do you give them a second chance and read more about them?

I can share!

My next release from Samhain will be an erotic romance novel, Silken Canvas. December seems far away right now, but since I just got the final version of the cover, I can start getting excited now! The hero in Silken Canvas is an erotic artist, the heroine will be his model for the weekend. I asked for a cover with an artistic feel, and I think the talented Samhain art department really delivered.

Kilted Lover... My First Cover!!!

I know it's not my day to blog, but I couldn't wait! I had to share my first book cover, designed by the fabulous and very talented Rae Monet!

Is this a gorgeous, sexy, hot, delicious cover or what?? This guy's body is a prefect replica of the hero's in this story. He's a tall, very muscular guy who tosses cabers for fun. (I told you about him on Tuesday.)

Kilted Lover is a contemporary erotic romance novella which takes place in Charleston, SC, starting at the Scottish Games held there every year. You see the new Cooper River Bridge in the background. I watched the workers construct a small portion of it a few years ago. The beautiful amulet is the touch of paranormal in this story and catalyst for the hero and heroine meeting and getting together.

And this hottie looks reallllly good in a kilt and sporran! ;-)

What Brings You Happiness?--Or Happiness Can be a Great Book Cover

Okay, I’ll admit lots of things make me happy. Good health. A loving family. Wonderful friends. A vacation getaway to a favorite place or new one. News that I’ve sold another book. The list goes on. But something not already listed brought me immense happiness and a reason for celebration this past week. What’s at the root of her happiness this time, you might ask? I’ll gladly provide the answer. My cover art file for my upcoming Ellora’s Cave novel, TORMENTED, arrived in my inbox. No matter that my morning had been filled with mundane errands and household tasks. Simply seeing that email brought the same level of excitement as I’d experienced when a child on Christmas morning. But when I finished clicking and opening, there wasn’t any wrapping paper or ribbon to tidy up this time. Instead, a work of cover art that perfectly meshes with my story.

As a very visual woman, I’m drawn to stories wearing appealing covers. If an author isn’t on my auto-buy list, a cover that artfully and interestingly conveys the subject matter contained within an e-file, paperback or hardcover novel, finds me more inclined to read the story blurb/back-cover blurb and the first chapter. Of course, it’s all about the story and characters when it comes to reading, but a great cover finds me considering a book I might have otherwise missed. To date, my favorite book cover is ROUGHRIDER. I’ll admit I’m quite fond of the sexy rodeo hero pictured on the front of my latest release from Ellora’s Cave.
