And here's a teaser from Lucky Me!

Just get it over with.

Diane Varney pulled her old Buick into the long driveway leading to the two-story gray house on the outskirts of Best Bay. It had been called the Harper Homestead for as long as she could remember. The driveway was plowed, the walk shoveled. It looked like Jason was doing a good job helping his father while he was down. Ford had to be going crazy not to be able to do it himself.

The sunlight glittered off the smooth expanse of snow behind the house, and the sky was that brilliant blue that seemed to appear only on crisp winter days like this. The texture of the clouds overhead made her fingers itch with the desire to capture the scene.

There’d been a time when she carried a sketch pad with her all the time, when every moment was an inspiration. It had been so long since she’d indulged her creativity she worried it was too late to recapture. But her appointment this afternoon wasn’t what was causing the nerves zinging through her body at the moment.

Stop dragging your feet.

Diane picked the take-out box off the seat beside her and got out of the car. After the damned fool had his accident, she’d heard that nearly every single woman of a certain age in the area had high-tailed it over here, offering home-cooked meals, baked goods, and who knows what else to the injured widower.

Diane had made sure she wasn’t part of that crowd.

But here she was, stopping by with food after all. Diane pushed the doorbell and heard it echo through the house. Ford had to have expected Jason to come back with his lunch, but he didn’t answer the door. Of course, his son probably would have walked right in.

Couldn’t Ford get around well enough to come to the door? Had all those other women simply walked into the house with their cakes and chicken casseroles? Diane rang the doorbell again. When there was still no answer, she began to worry. What if he’d fallen again? What if he was lying unconscious or bleeding?

She tested the doorknob and it turned in her hand. Her heart began to race as she pushed it open slightly. “Ford?” she called out hesitantly.

“Well, get in here.” His deep, gravelly voice rumbled through her system.

The front door opened into a large foyer. The last time she’d been in this house was after the funeral of her old friend, Irene, who died suddenly of a brain aneurysm. How many years ago was that now? Diane kicked off her boots, hung her coat on a hook by the door and then headed into the hall that ran down the middle of the house. Pictures of members of the Harper family going back several generations covered the walls of the narrow space. “Ford?”

“In here.”

Following the sound of his voice, she turned right into the living room. He sat in an old recliner, wearing a gray T-shirt and black gym shorts. His legs were raised, one encased in a cast from toe to thigh. Her gaze finally made it past his broad shoulders and she caught a glimpse of the face that she’d thought was amazing when he was younger and had simply improved over the years.

She swallowed. Butterflies in the stomach was a cliché for a reason.

His thick hair was now a shiny silver and the wavy strands were tousled as if he’d run his fingers through them. He obviously hadn’t shaved in a few days and if she’d been close enough she might have reached out to brush her fingers along his light scruff before she realized what she was doing. His blue eyes didn’t sparkle this morning as much as they used to. Dark circles gave away his lack of sleep.

His lips lifted in a small smile. “Hey, Di. What are you doing here?”

She was going to ignore the butterflies. “You look like shit.”

He barked out a small laugh. “I could always trust you to cut out the bull.”

She set the take-out box on the arm of the long, upholstered sofa. The small table beside his chair had a stack of dirty plates. Three remotes were lined up on one of the arms of the chair. She didn’t see his crutches.

Diane fought the instinct to pick up and straighten. “Jason asked me to stop by with your burger. He had to leave in a hurry.”

“I heard the rescue call go out, thought it might be something like that.” He shifted in his chair and looked around. For the missing crutches, perhaps?

“Need some help?” She couldn’t resist making the offer. She should turn around and get out of there but she couldn’t leave him like this.

He grimaced, his hands gripping the arms of the chair. “I don’t want any help.”

She folded her arms. “I know you don’t want any help, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need some.”

“I’m sick of needing help.” Ford dropped his head back. “Hell, I’m too old for this shit.”

“Don’t tell me you walked under that ladder before you climbed up it.”

“I would never do that.” He grinned then and her heart did a flip. “Just like I’d never open an umbrella inside a building and I always pick up a penny when I find one. You taught me well, Di.”

He was too damn cute but he wasn’t going to distract her. “What were you doing up on a ladder in the first place?”

“The gutters needed cleaning out.”

“You can hire someone to do that, you know.”

His eyes narrowed. “I’m perfectly capable of cleaning out my own damn gutters. I’ve climbed ladders my whole life.”

Thinking about him crumpled at the foot of that ladder made her heart race again. “You could have broken your stupid neck.”

“Well, I didn’t. I just broke my stupid leg.”

She locked her gaze with his. “And now you need help.”

He shook his head. “All the other women who bring me food are nice to me. They don’t call me stupid.”

“Guess they don’t know you very well.” She used to know him. Back before he married her best friend.

PROTECTED BY THE LAIRD by Eliza Knight
While on a siege, Laird Douglas Hay discovers a lass’ half-frozen body. Though she’s his enemy, he cannot abandon her. As his captive, she could bring a hefty ransom. He revives her, a task easier managed than dealing with her fiery temper, and the intense desire heating his veins. Taken prisoner by a brutish warrior, Lady Annora Comyn is determined to escape. Secretly, she believes the war between Scots is ludicrous, that the vying for the crown should have ceased when her royal brother was murdered. Annora struggles with the notion of letting men fight their battles, or offering herself as collateral to unite the warring Scots. After all, there are far worse things than having to kiss Laird Hay everyday for ever and ever…

HIS HIGHLAND ROSE by Willa Blair
Iain Brodie is a fierce warrior and passionate lover, but to prove he’s responsible enough to be the clan’s chief, he must find a bride—quickly. One of the three Rose daughters fills his mind—and heart—even when he discovers she is not who she claimed to be. Annie Rose doesn’t want to be a bride, not even deliciously and annoyingly sexy Iain’s. But her father wants an alliance with Iain’s clan, and he’s chosen her to forge it. USA Today Bestseller!!

I have fantastic news! Captured by a Celtic Warrior hit the USA Today bestseller list! This is a major milestone in my career which I've been waiting for a long time. I'm also thrilled to share this honor with Kris Kennedy, Eliza Knight and Jennifer Haymore, three amazing and talented authors! You can see the list here: USA Today Best-selling Books.  A huge thanks to all of you who purchased the book!!

The King’s Outlaw, by Kris Kennedy
1193 - Outlawed and on the run, Tadhg O’Malley has one mission: escape with the valuable dagger of Jerusalem before a brutal nobleman hunts him down. Trapped and almost cornered, his plan is simple: kidnap the innocent merchant with the long hair and complicated eyes. Igniting a raging passion is not part of the plan. Neither is falling in love. Both endanger their lives, his mission, and with it, the kingdom.

Taken by the Highlander, by Eliza Knight
1306 - A week before Lady Rose Munro is to wed a neighboring laird, she is abducted on the road by a wicked and dangerously handsome stranger. Highland warrior, Malcolm Montgomery has been ordered by King Robert the Bruce to steal Rose and her son from the suspected traitor she is about to marry—gifting him with an ancient and much sought after dagger as payment. Rose shouldn’t trust her captor. Shouldn’t feel her body heat at his simple touch, or allow him to press his fervent lips to hers… Malcolm shouldn’t be seducing the woman he is sworn to protect. Shouldn’t desire her, for she’s not meant to be his… Succumbing to passion threatens them both, and falling in love is absolutely not an option.

Stolen by a Highland Rogue, by Vonda Sinclair
1619 - When the infamous dagger is stolen from Highland chief, Dugald MacKerrick, he will do whatever it takes to reclaim it, even abduct the wife of the aristocratic thief, but what if his beautiful French hostage isn't who he thinks she is? Deep in the rugged Scottish Highlands, Dugald discovers not only is his captive, Camille Bouchard, more than he expected, so is the passion raging between them, threatening everything he thought mattered to him.

Her Wicked Highlander, by Jennifer Haymore
1816 - Maxwell White is the newest member of the Highland Knights, an elite mercenary group sworn to protect the Crown. His first assignment is to keep independent and spirited Aila MacKerrick safe from a madman determined to get his hands on a treasure she unwittingly possesses. But Aila isn’t going to simply allow some Highlander—as handsome as he might be—to capture her and whisk her away to an abandoned castle. She’ll fight to the death for her freedom...as soon as she rids herself of this pesky, insistent desire that makes her far more inclined to run into his arms than away from them....

Here's an excerpt from my story, Stolen by a Highland Rogue:

Camille Bouchard sat in the common room of the White Ram Inn, eating her midday meal, even though it was well past noon. When the large, commanding Highlander in a belted plaid had strode in earlier, bold as the brass studs in his leather armor, she had almost choked on her roasted lamb. Sacrebleu! What a striking and gorgeous man he was, with long hair, dark as midnight. On second glance, she saw that his green eyes were angry as a stormy sea. What had riled him?
Not glancing her way, he sat at a nearby table and was, at present, arguing quietly with a beautiful and well-dressed, dark-haired lady. Camille wondered at their relationship until the man called her "sister." That explained their slight resemblance.
Although Camille could not understand much of what was being said since they were trying to keep their voices low, she found she enjoyed listening to the Highlander's deep, rumbling voice.
Camille's cousin, Angelique Drummagan, Countess of Draughon, had married a Highlander the year before. After a very rocky start, their passionate marriage had turned into a happy one and they were expecting their first child in a few weeks. Camille had come to Perth with a couple of servants to shop for the supplies Angelique would need upon the arrival of their new babe.
Camille sent another quick glance toward the brawny Highlander at the other table. In truth, she could hardly keep her eyes off him. Short beard stubble darkened and defined his stubborn jawline. His shoulders were as broad as one of the distant Cairngorms. His proud and confident bearing told her he was someone of importance, perhaps a leader. A chief? His clothes did not look new or expensive, however. Mayhap a war leader? Of a certainty, he appeared to be a strong warrior.
She glanced down at his plaid-covered thighs and muscular calves, sprinkled with dark hair. Good heavens, how she loved Highland clothing customs which showed off a man's fine form. Her mouth suddenly going dry, she took a large sip of spiced wine.
The Highlander's sister shoved to her feet, her mouth dropping open. "I cannot believe what a brute you are being about this, Dugald!"
His fist clenched upon the table. "I am most serious and determined in this," he growled.
With a huff, the woman stormed up the stairs.
Parbleu! What had the argument been about?
The Highlander—Dugald—arose and, with angry strides, left the building. Was he truly a brute as his sister had said? Why should Camille care? Oui, she had been searching for a Scotsman of her own for many months, and he was a most attractive man. But she had no need for a brute.

On SALE this week for only .99 cents!! (Next week the price will go up to 4.99.)

Guest: Jennifer Haymore + Giveaway!

I'm thrilled to be interviewing some of the other authors from our new anthology, Captured by a Celtic Warrior. Everyone, please welcome Jennifer Haymore!

USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Haymore is the author of sexy historical and contemporary romance. Her books have been nominated for numerous awards, including five RT Book Reviews Reviewers Choice awards and the prestigious RITA® award for best historical romance.

You can find Jennifer in Southern California trying to talk her husband into yet another trip to England, helping her three children with homework while brainstorming a new five-minute dinner menu, or crouched in a corner of the local bookstore writing her next novel.

I've read Jennifer's story in this anthology and absolutely loved it! It's titled Her Wicked Highlander and this is what it's about:

1816 - Maxwell White is the newest member of the Highland Knights, an elite mercenary group sworn to protect the Crown. His first assignment is to keep independent and spirited Aila MacKerrick safe from a madman determined to get his hands on a treasure she unwittingly possesses. But Aila isn’t going to simply allow some Highlander—as handsome as he might be—to capture her and whisk her away to an abandoned castle. She’ll fight to the death for her freedom...as soon as she rids herself of this pesky, insistent desire that makes her far more inclined to run into his arms than away from them....

Q: Welcome, Jennifer and thank you for visiting with us! What is the story behind your story?

A: Kris Kennedy came to me over a year ago and asked me to be a part of a box set she was organizing. The box set had two themes: (1) Celtic hero (easy since I’m in the middle of writing the Highland Knights series!), and (2) A capture story (a little bit more tricky, but capture stories? Yum!). My mind started churning immediately, and over the next few months, the story of Aila MacKerrick and Max White formed in my mind.

Q: I agree. The capture part of the story was fun but tricky. :) Why do you write romance?

A: I write romance because I love a happy ending that makes me feel good. I also like a bit of heat and sexual tension in the books I read. So it seems natural that the books I write should be romances as well. :)

Q: I love your Highland setting, naturally. :) Why did you choose this setting and why was it perfect for your book?

A: Strangely enough, my Highland Knights books have mostly been based in London (with frequent travels north). I have been craving writing a book that takes place entirely in the Highlands and I was finally able to with Her Wicked Highlander. Yay! And there is a dilapidated but beautiful castle thrown in for good measure.

Q: Please tell us about your favorite character in the book.

A:  I love Aila, the heroine. She is the most feisty heroine I’ve ever written. She has a sharp tongue and a strong wit, and she so strong. She isn’t afraid of anything! But I love Max, the hero, equally. He’s one of those quiet, strong warrior-types, and Aila makes him scratch his head in confusion more than once. He’s not used to dealing with women like her, lol.

Q: I love them both too! Please tell us about your other books.

A: I have over 20 books published in four series. The James Series, The Donovan Sisters, The House of Trent, and now the Highland Knights. They’re all steamy historical romances with lots of heat and heart. You can read more about them all at www.jenniferhaymore.com.

Q: If you are self-published, why did you choose that route? Do you love it or what would you do differently?

A: I am both self-published and traditionally published—I am a “hybrid” author—and both routes have their pros and cons. Traditional publishing gives a bit more structure and built-in support while self-publishing offers a ton of freedom. So depending on my mood on any given day, I’m a fan of both.

Q: Do you have any advice for unpublished authors?

A: Read! Read tons of romance in the subgenre that you love, and read outside the genre as well. I really think reading books is the #1 way to learn how to write them.

Q: What’s next for you?

A: After Captured by a Celtic Warrior, I have another book in my Highland Knights series coming out—Highland Awakening.  It releases on March 29, and you can read more about it at http://www.jenniferhaymore.com/bookshelf/highland-awakening/.

Q: Would you like to ask readers a question?

A: Romance heroes. We love them. Warriors, pirates, rakes, gentlemen, bad boys, dark and damaged, alpha...and so many more. What is your favorite kind of hero and why?

The Highlander's Charm by Eliza Knight

They should be enemies… But passion and love know no bounds.

Returning from battle to England, Samuel de Mowbray discovers that his two younger sisters have been stolen by Highlanders. Determined to save them from vicious warriors, he convinces the king to send him north. While there, he discovers that his loyalties are wavering and that a headstrong, feisty lass could destroy everything he believes.

Catriona Buchanan must travel north to ask for help in saving her brother and ridding her castle of brutal English knights. Unfortunately, to do so, she must trust in the thing she mistrusts the most—an Englishman. Minute by minute, the man who should be her enemy breaks down her defenses. There is something different about him and she can’t help but be captivated by Samuel, and his steamy kisses.

Heart of Stone by Willa Blair

Riding home after two years away, Gavan MacNabb encounters a lass and her deerhound in a moonlit circle of standing stones. Little does he know the garland of bluebells she weaves and the spell she sings will change the course of his life.

Marsali Murray doesn’t really believe the old wives’ tale that making a chain of bluebells by the standing stones under a waxing moon will bring true love, but she’s desperate to try anything to escape the boring, everlasting sameness of her life.

Gavan has already seen much of the world denied to Marsali. He’s ready to settle down. She is eager to spread her wings. Can they find what they need with each other?

Kilts and Kisses by Victoria Roberts

Since the deaths of her parents, Ceana Gunn has lived in the shadow of her uncle and his family. She wants nothing more than to see her clan the way it was when her father was still laird. But her uncle has other ideas. Ceana soon discovers that the only refuge to be found is in the last place she expects—the arms of her enemy.

Luthais MacKay wants to be left alone. His only interest is training his prized hawks. He certainly doesn’t have time to listen to the petty squabbling of his clan when his father travels to Edinburgh and leaves him in charge. But when Luthais discovers a mysterious woman on his lands, he’s determined to unravel her secrets…one layer at a time.

Here is an excerpt from my story (My Captive Highlander):

Maili's hands shook as she tried to concentrate on embroidering green bracken fronds onto a dress, but a feeling of distress near overwhelmed her.
'Twas the same feeling she'd experienced last night when she dreamed of the drowning man.
Maili glanced up at her cousin Constance who sat across from her, embroidering serenely. Fair-haired and green-eyed, Constance was beautiful and she knew it. Maili didn't wish her cousin to know anything about her thoughts. She looked on Maili's "sight" with scorn.
Unable to tolerate the suspense any longer, Maili tossed down her embroidery, sprang from the chair and strode to the window. Her gaze skimmed over the loch, much calmer now in the sunlight and reflecting the brilliant blue sky. At first, she saw naught, then she noticed a small galley being rowed toward the castle. Her brother's scouts patrolled the loch each day and night, going so far as the sea and then returning. Had they picked up the man she'd had the nightmare about?
Her stomach knotted as they rowed closer. When the men leapt ashore and pulled the galley in, one man remained lying in the boat, unmoving.
"'Tis him," she whispered, touching the wavy glass.
"What?" Constance asked behind her.
"Naught."
One of her brother's guards dipped a bucket of water and splashed it into the stranger's face. When he roused, two men dragged him from the boat. The stranger was dark-haired, tall and lean… and he wore a tartan weave she'd never seen before.
The two scouts dragged him up the shore and around the side of the castle. He jerked against them, trying to fight or escape. Fury, pain and fear radiated from him.
Who was he and what would her brother do to him? She hastened toward the door.
"Where are you going?" Constance asked.
Maili paused. "Some of the men are bringing in a stranger. I but wondered who he is."
"Why does it matter? Probably someone who trespassed onto clan lands."
"Aye. I'll return forthwith." She calmly exited and closed the door. Once out of sight, she trotted down the narrow stone stairwell to the great hall. She flew down the outside steps just as her brother smashed his fist against the stranger's jaw. Nay! One of the other men delivered a fearsome jab to the poor man's stomach. He was already bloody and haggard.
"Stop!" Maili yelled, racing toward them.
Elrick turned a furious glare on her, his tawny hair glinting in the bright sunlight and his eyes the color of blue flame. "What the bloody hell are you doing out here?"
"Who is he?" she asked. The sight of the newcomer's beaten, battered and bloody face made her ache inside. His doublet was drenched in blood. When his dark eyes met hers, 'twas clear he was halfway insensible and near to passing out. Something within her demanded that she protect him.
"He's a damned MacKenzie," her brother said. "Why do you care?"
She'd heard about the past blood feud with the MacKenzies years ago. "He's injured."
"Aye, and he's going to be even more injured before I'm through with him." Elrick gave a malicious grin.
Images of war and carnage flashed through her mind. "Nay, you must not harm him further or you will bring another feud to our clan," she warned.
"Don't think to order me about, sister! Take her inside!"
"What do you intend to do with him?" she asked, trying to keep her voice calm and reasonable.
"Get her out of here. Now!" he ordered.
One of the burly guards picked her up, tossed her over his massive shoulder and carried her up the steps. She pounded her fists against his broad back, fighting to escape, but kept her gaze on the MacKenzie stranger. She had to help him!
But how?
"I cannot wait until she's married and gone from here," her brother grumbled loudly.
Chuckles followed.
"The wee witch is naught but trouble," her brother's sword-bearer and war leader Hamish said.
After the guard carried her into the great hall, the entry door slammed, cutting off the rest of the conversation about her.
"Damn you! Release me!" she told the guard.
He gave a brief laugh and tossed her to her feet. "Do not place a curse on me, witch. I'm only following orders."
"I am not a witch," she said through clenched teeth and tried to dart around him toward the door.
"Nay." He jumped in front of her and blocked the door.
She hastened across the room to the narrow window that looked out over the barmkin.
Her brother slammed his fist into the MacKenzie man's stomach and he doubled over.
"Stop it, Elrick," she grumbled. Shouting at him would do no good. 'Twould only make him angrier. How could he be so vicious? He was nothing like their dear, departed father or her other brother, Neacal.
Elrick stepped back to converse with three of his advisors. Her gaze locked to the dark-haired stranger. He needed the healer and probably some food. But 'twas something beyond his immediate needs that drew her attention. Something that made her want to run to him and protect him against her own clansmen.
She sensed he was a man who would be important to her.
