And I just finished Jaguar Pride!!! I'm still editing and halfway done with that, but I wrote THE END!

When I wrote Bound by Danger, it was a single title book. :) It's in part based on some of my military experiences, some on true case crimes, and well, the psychic business and the romance is pure fantasy. All the locations are real places I've either visited or lived. So it was a lot of fun for me to write this story. What I didn't expect was to have a great outpouring of love for the book and that fans wanted to see the next in the series. :) And I love it!!!

Army officer Deidre Roux has hidden her psychic abilities until now. But ominous visions plague her and between the martial arts tactics her twin brother taught her and the hand-to-hand combat she learned in the Army—she’s realizing just how important these skills are for her well-being.
When a reporter moves in next door, she’s not sure just what to think. Dave Carter owns a gun—it is Texas—and comes to her rescue when her brother suddenly drops into her life again. From there it’s the normal stuff that women and men tend to do when they’re getting to know each other—boating, swimming, dancing—except for one thing…she’s trying to keep her secret under wraps at all costs, which is difficult to do when she’s under surveillance by the FBI, and people keep wanting her dead.
Could a reporter, who’s not really a reporter, prove he might just have what it takes to keep her safe–for the long run?
And so goes the birth of a series! First, this story is also based on some of the places I've lived, as was In the Dead of the Night--and in that one, one of the FBI safe houses was the same one used by the FBI in Bound by Danger. :)

In the Dead of the Night

Allan Thompson works for a special agency that takes down terrorists, but when he’s given the mission to protect one of Thurstan Wilson’s mistresses, he knows something isn’t right. Jenny Brant doesn’t have much time before she’s history and she has a plan, but what happens next turns her whole world inside out.
Allan Thompson arrives in Waco, Texas for a mission of utmost importance–protect a terrorist’s mistress from being the next victim on his hit list. But when the mission goes down wrong, Jenny Brant is nearly killed and Allan begins a new mission–protect her at all costs–as her faux husband until she can regain her memories.
Everything about the mission seems wrong–all starting with one Jenny Brant who doesn’t fit the profile of the kind of woman Wilson usually hooks up with. Allan and his team must protect her, but at what cost to his own sanity or his heart?
Jenny Brant begins to regain her memories, but when she learns she has a huge inheritance that Wilson wants by marrying her, and the agent Allan Thompson will marry her instead to secret her money away with the Agency’s protection, she still can’t remember why she would have been a killer’s main squeeze. When Wilson’s thugs try to return her to him, she becomes less sure of who the good guys are and who she truly is.
The only thing she knows for certain–if someone doesn’t take down Wilson, her life is forfeit.
So we're again in Texas, and again Bound for... well, in this case Danger, of course, and so much Trouble. Isn't that great???
I'm still editing the story, and tweeking the cover, but what do you think?

I think I have too many things going on! First, my PC went out on me. Wait, before that, my microwave, and yesterday, one of my electric floor heaters. Then, this morning, I went to write two of my bills and...they're missing. That does not mean I wrote them and already mailed them off. Unfortunately!

Off to mail the Campbell bear before it goes missing!

So are you ready to be Bound for Trouble?

Okay, off to get another cup of hot green tea.

Have a super great Saturday!

Fear Of Flying

I’ve been afraid of airplanes my whole life. Well, that’s not entirely true. But my fear of flying was formed on my first flight.

When I was nineteen, my grandmother took me on a high school “graduation present” trip to Rome. I was a little nervous getting on the plane in New York City, but the overnight flight was fine until we started our descent into Leonardo DaVinci airport. The 747, as I learned later, did a common ‘step landing,’ which entailed descending a few thousand feet, gliding, then descending a few more thousand feet, on its approach to landing.

Trouble was, every time the plane sank those thousands of feet on its glide path, I was convinced we were going to crash right to the ground. And since I’ve never been very good with roller coasters, the rolling, dropping, wavy motion of the plane had added to my stress level and made me sick to my stomach. The minute I’d felt a sour taste in my mouth, I’d known I was in trouble.

The flight attendants ordered everyone to buckle their seatbelts for landing, but I unhooked mine and scrambled into the aisle, making a mad dash for the bathroom in anticipation of throwing up. I never made it. A flight attendant at the back of the plane blocked my desperate beeline down the aisle and literally shoved me into an empty seat in one of the last rows, ordering me to buckle up for the landing.

That’s where a good Samaritan came to my rescue. Blond hair, blue eyes. I’d seen him get on the plane in New York carrying five tennis racquets, and wondered who he was (since I’m a big tennis fan myself). Now he turned out to be my savior. He urged me to put my head between my knees and just breathe. I remember shaking with the effort not to get sick in front of this gorgeous guy. I felt his hand gently stroking my back, trying to calm me. Of course, with his other hand, he slipped an air sickness bag between my knees, but it turned out I didn’t need it.

His advice worked. The plane had landed without me making a scene.

Except for the scene my grandmother made later, yelling at me for being so reckless by leaving my seat during the landing.

The name of that gorgeous guy? Well, he said he wanted to be a professional tennis player, and he was on his way to Rome to follow the tennis circuit in order to make a name for himself. I can tell you he had blond hair and blue eyes and that he went on to win many, many major tennis tournaments, but that’s all I’m going to say (or else I’ll date myself)!

This real life event has inspired my latest story. Right now, I’m working with several other Secrets authors on a May anthology in which a fortune teller’s prediction launches each of our individual stories. In my tale, the fortune teller informs my heroine, “You’re never going to die in a plane crash.” Of course this is a romance, so expect lots of steamy scenes as my hero helps my heroine try to overcome her fear of flying!

How about you? What are you afraid of? I’d love to hear!

Ardvreck Castle

Ardvreck Castle
Ardvreck Castle is a ruin which sits on a promontory in Loch Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland. This is one of the most hauntingly beautiful areas of Scotland.
Ardvreck Castle is the inspiration for the castle I named Munrick in my last three books. In my novels, Torrin MacLeod is the chief who lives here and he's the hero of My Notorious Highlander. The last portion of the book takes place here.

A sign at Ardvreck Castle reads: "Built by Angus Mor III in the latter half of the 15th century, Ardvreck Castle began as a simple rectangular block, three or four storeys in height. Almost a century later, Donald Ban IX enhanced the castle's accommodation by adding the tower and, in the fashion of the time, the vaulted cellars and vault over the great hall on the first floor."

"The stone wall that cuts off the promontory follows the line of an earlier rampart, augmenting the castle's naturally defensive position. Even after Donald Ban's improvements, Ardvreck was still small, requiring other buildings around it to house kitchens, servant's quarters and stables. However, a place was found for Ardvreck's most famous, although unwilling, occupant, James Graham, Marquis of Montrose, imprisoned here in 1650 after his defeat at the Battle of Carbisdale."

The information from the sign continues: "Throughout its life, Ardvreck was the scene of much violence, with murders, executions, and sieges by both traditional enemies and quarrelsome branches of the MacLeod family. In 1672, a 14-day siege by the MacKenzies of Wester Ross marked the end of MacLeod ownership of Assynt. Nature carried out the final act of violence on the castle in 1795 when it was struck by lightning and largely destroyed.

Many ghosts are said to haunt Ardvreck. The weeping daughter of a MacLeod chief, who drowned in Loch Assynt after marrying the Devil in a pact to save her father's castle, has been seen on the beach, but the tall man in grey, often seen in the ruins, seems to be an altogether happier ghost."

View of Loch Assynt
On our first visit to Ardvreck, a misty rain was falling that grew harder so we didn't get to stay long or visit Calda House. On the visit this past year in July, it was a beautiful, sunny, warm day. I didn't even need a jacket. Shocker. :) The blue and green colors here are mesmerizing. It's such a peaceful quiet place, but it also feels a bit sad and lonely to me. I can feel the residual energy of the history that hangs in the air.

Ardvreck Castle
Montrose was later taken to Edinburgh and executed. He was a Royalist fighting on the side of Charles I against the Covenanters. Having lost a battle nearby, he sought refuge with the MacLeods. Neil MacLeod was away and apparently his wife Christine had Montrose imprisoned.

What the castle may have looked like in its prime.

Ardvreck was attacked and taken by the MacKenzie Clan in 1672. They also took all the Assynt lands. They lived here at the castle until 1726 when they built a manor house nearby, Calda House, which also now stands in ruins after a fire in 1737. I'll do a future post about it.

"…how attractive are the stately ruins of Ardvreck, looking us straight in the face as we cross the narrow neck of the peninsula on which they stand! It was without doubt the scene of 'Many a wassail wild and deed of blood'; but now there is not a cat to mew, nor a cock to crow, in the fortress of the Clan MacLeod." Sir John Sinclair, Scenes and Stories of the North of Scotland, 1890.

Hope you enjoyed this visit to Ardvreck Castle.

If you look at the background of my cover, you will see Ardvreck Castle. :)

My Notorious Highlander: Chief Torrin MacLeod vows to possess and wed the spirited lady who stole his heart the previous winter. But Lady Jessie MacKay wants naught to do with the dangerous warrior, no matter how devilishly handsome and charming he is. When Torrin arrives unexpectedly at Jessie's home, along with Gregor MacBain, a man Jessie was formerly handfasted to, she is thrown off-kilter. She never wanted to see either man again, but now they are vying for her hand. Torrin promises to protect her from the devious MacBain, but how can she trust Torrin when she has witnessed how lethal he is?

The more time Torrin spends with the strong and independent Jessie, the more determined he is to win her heart. Once she allows him a kiss, he feels her passion flame as hot as his own. After she knows Torrin better, Jessie finds herself falling for the fearsome Highlander. But the odds are stacked against them. The sinister MacBain is bent on kidnapping Jessie, making her his bride and killing Torrin, while Jessie's conniving younger brother, Haldane, is determined to use Jessie to take over the castle in his older brother's absence. Jessie fears she can never be with the man she loves, while Torrin will do everything in his power to ensure they are together forever. In his heart, she is the only lady for him.

Thanks!
