Okay Vacay

It may be a little early, but I’m planning a vacation. A summer vacation. How does that sound? Hits the spot, doesn’t it? In many places in the world, it’s cold right now, but in my head I’m thinking of something really hot, and it ain’t no erotic story this time.

I’m going to the Caribbean.

Technically, I don’t find it really hot in the Caribbean. More like very, very warm. I’ve been there a couple of times before, and I love it. I really want to retire there; however, I don’t think I’m going to be able to buy an island in that area any time soon so that probably won’t happen. And I want my own island, my own little piece of paradise, where I can retire under my own rules and enjoy the lack of people who don’t follow my idea of living it up, which means hanging out on the beach and reading. Or drinking wine. Or eating pizza. Or all of the above.

I’m planning it now so that I might have a chance to save up for my little sojourn, although the chances of that happening aren’t too good either. I remain hopeful, however. Getting to the Caribbean isn’t inexpensive, and I need to start setting aside some pennies to get to one of the places I love most in the world. I think Hemingway, a Caribbean fan himself, would be proud of my plan to spend time in the vicinity of his 6-toed feline friends.

So where would you like to vacation? Please do share. It’s going to be a long winter and we all need to daydream a little.

Happy Reading!

Kitten Promo!

I'm glad to say I received my copies of the French edition of My Brave Highlander. Kaylee's kittens are five months old now, almost grown, so I've given them work to do, helping me promote my books. LOL

Bluebelle and Pixie check out the books. "These smell good, like box."

Blue: My New Cat!

If you've seen Vonda Sinclair's photo's of her kittens, then you've seen my Blue, first as a newborn, than a playful kitten with his brothers and sisters. I've had him for a little more than a month, and the empty place in my heart left when my dog, Courage, passed away, is healing nicely.

Blue still has that long and lanky body of a kitten, and will one day be a quite large cat, but what strikes me most is his regal and distinct profile, which reminds me of an Egyptian cat statue. Other's have said the same.
At this very moment, he is sitting behind my laptop with his chin resting on top of the screen, with his eyes closed. I assure you, that won't last long. In mere seconds he'll suddenly come wide awake and go sprinting down the hall speaking a language only he and his kind understand.

Kaylee's Babies

Kaylee is a little black female cat who found me at my parents' house. My mom already has a female indoor cat and she doesn't get along with any other cats. Kaylee was living under one of the outbuildings. When I saw how friendly and sweet she is I decided to bring her home with me. I could tell the first time I saw her that she was going to have kittens. She is such a small cat that she was showing after only a couple of weeks apparently. I took her to the vet and she did a sonogram. She said Kaylee would have at least three kittens in a couple of weeks. Well... I waited and waited... and waited some more. Meanwhile, Kaylee is getting rounder and rounder. Her belly started to resemble a bowling ball. I didn't see how she could get much bigger. It seemed obvious to me she was going to have more than three kittens.
Kaylee a couple of weeks before her babies were born.
Finally, she had the kittens. I had to babysit the older ones and keep them warm while she was having the younger ones and taking care of them. I couldn't believe it when she had six babies. Four black and two gray. She was exhausted by the time the ordeal was over.
Kaylee's one day old kittens.

Meal time! One day old.
Kaylee is such a wonderful and patient mama and it's obvious she loves her babies.

Day 2
What was I thinking... having six babies at once??

Can unexpected passion and a little ancient magic turn enemies into lovers?

Hero of a Highland Wolf up Next!

Castle with wolf (581x640)
Getting ready for the next release coming up, Hero of a Highland Wolf (August)! I visited Dunnottar in October, and you can see how green the grass was. Beautiful.
Hero of HL Wolf-300 (390x640)
I just turned in Jaguar Pride edits and they sent me the FINAL approved cover for it. What do you think?
Jaguar Pride-300-1
Love the way they changed the cat’s eyes to make them really stand out, and love the purple.
Okay, I have to get back to proofing A Highland Wolf Christmas.
The fun part of all this is the books are written. No figuring out how to wrap up all the loose ends, or end it period. They’re done. Just final proofing. Yes!
But as soon as I have made the changes to A SEAL Wolf for Sale and turn it in, I’ll be starting with: Chapter 1. A Silver Wolf Christmas. No other words, just title, my name, and Chapter 1.
Where do I go from there?
I have no idea.
LOL

Have a terrific Saturday!.

I'm off to Dog Days of Summer, and it's already been in the 90's and talking of storms in the area. argh

Three Sure-fire Distractions You Didn't Know About Me

I really liked the topic last week as well as the one for this week, so I thought I'd combine them just for the fun of it. Therefore, my blog post will be about three things you didn't know would sure-firedly distract me (and, yes, I am aware that sure-firedly may not even be a word, but it sounds kind of fun and funky, so I'm keeping it...lol).

The first and foremost distraction I must guard against is dresses. I'm a dress aficionado and have been since I could crawl into my baptismal gown--a lovely little white number with crocheted rosettes. I adore dresses, and when I'm writing and need a break, guess what I do? Yep, I go dress shopping online. I rarely ever actually buy a dress, but I can sit and stare at the pretty sparkles and posh fabrics for hours. Today I was searching for something on Yahoo that was completely unrelated to dresses, and an article popped up about Princess Diana's spare dress. What? A spare dress, you say? Why, I wonder what that looks like?

So I clicked on the link to find out.

I read the article, which I found fascinating and which you can read by clicking here, and before I could stop myself, I'd clicked on a link to a slide show of royal wedding dresses through the years, which is here if you want to see it. I could go on all day about these dresses, and that's the problem. You could stand a naked man with a million dollars in one hand and a diamond ring in the other in front of me, but if I hear the crinkle of the folding of taffeta seven miles away in a bridal shop, he's gonna have to stand in line for my attention.

Speaking of needing attention, my second sure-fire distraction is my cats. They climb all over me when I'm typing, and most of the time at least one of them is sitting in front of my computer monitor or nibbling my fingers as I type. Sometimes they tag team me, with one sitting in front of the monitor while the other dances on my keyboard. The most fun is when they sneeze on the monitor or do the butt-dancing thing where they lift their rears to get a good back scratch and their little butts rub across my computer screen. I can't tell you how interesting that's turned out to be in the past. It's all good, though, because I just blame my little leaky-butted, emotionally needy felines for all the typos you see in my blog posts.

Which leads me to my last sure-fire distraction--blogging. I love it, and even when I'm supposed to be doing other things, like bathing, exercising, fixing dinner, doing laundry, typing around my cats, dress shopping online, etc., I'm always thinking about my blog posts. I post on about 4-5 blogs, so I've always got ideas clattering around in my head. As a matter of fact, I think that anymore I even think in blog posts, at least when I'm not daydreaming about, well, er, never you mind what I daydream about. You get the idea.

So there you have it. Three things that you didn't know would sure-firedly distract Cameo. What about you? Do share!

Interview w/ Thistle

Karin Tabke inspired me to write about my kitty--er--writing partner, Thistle. Here he is in his "desk chair". That's my former desk chair, which he took over. The blanket is merely for his comfort, fortunately it also catches all the hair he sheds. Ack! I never had dustbunnies as large as the hairballs that roll around on the floor from this cat. These hair/dustbunnies must be caught in a steel trap.

If he doesn't feel like giving me writing ideas, he may snuggle in the sink, or drool over birds he sees outside the window.

I featured him in one of my stories. He plays the part of the heroine's cat. His role..."Thistle," naturally and he does what he's best at--demanding food, immediately!!! Yeowling and headbutting someone's shin.

When Thistle heard I was interviewing authors on my blog, he became jealous, so here goes...

Interview

VS: How did you come by your interesting name?

Thistle: Well, first off, it had to have a Scottish sound--er--meaning. And you know that beautiful white fluff that flies around in late summer carrying thistle seeds on the wind? That's what my hair looked like when I was a wee kitten. But most importantly, I am prickly, like the thistle. I like to bite and scratch (until you had my claws removed, you meanie!)

VS: I prefer to keep the new leather furniture intact, thank you very much.

Thistle: I'll show you. I still have teeth. And back claws. (evil little snicker)

VS: Okay, great. What is your biggest fear?

Thistle: How dare you bring up the vacuum cleaner?

VS: What is your favorite thing to do, besides sleep?

Thistle: Eat. Oh, that was a trick question, wasn't it? I'll have you know 16 lbs is totally in the normal range for felines of my disposition. I have big bones...and a lot of fur.
