The 14 inches of snow that started falling last Friday certainly gave us an interesting week before Christmas, and left a winter wonderland outside. We’re used to snow, but what was unusual about this one is the way it clung in huge piles to the tree tops… and broke them. This resulted in trees falling on power lines all over our area and a few thousand people without power.
We were without electricity for two days. My husband looked on the bright side… it was like camping indoors. And he loves camping. Me, not so much. So I let him heat our food on his little camping stove. After all, why deprive him of fun? We had to use our gas fireplace, which we rarely use, for heat. And for light, candles. How romantic and cozy. One thing we noticed was it was very quiet without any electric hums in the house. I was thinking this must have been what it sounded like in the 1800s and earlier. Anything can be turned into research.
Here are some of the pictures I took outside. The first one (above) is one of my tiny topiary Christmas trees on the steps. The last one shows how the snow growing heavier on the evergreen branches. So heavy the trees finally bowed sideways after that picture was taken.
