The Little Man Turns One!

Hard to believe that it's been a year since my youngest grandson was born. He's been and continues to be a joy. He's a master crawler but he's starting to take a few steps on his own. Won't be long before he's tearing through the house! When we were in Florida with my parents, his daddy sent me pictures every day so we could continue to watch him grow.

So in honor of his birthday, here are a few pictures to make you smile on your Monday morning!

I love balls!

I love birthday cake!

I hope these pictures of my happy little man adds some joy to your day. I know he does mine!

I'm Thankful For...

I try to remember to be thankful all year round, but sometimes when we're just barreling through life, it's easy to just get caught up in the day to day and forget to consciously think of all the things we're thankful for. Even when things might not be going so good, we can always be grateful for the little things. But Thanksgiving week is always a reminder to send out your thanks to God or the Universe or whoever/wherever your thanks goes. So here's my short list of thanks.

First and foremost is my family. My loving, supportive hubby. My great kids and their great kids. (And since we just had Halloween - I have to share pics of the two little guys!)

3 years old already!

6 months old already!

I'm thankful for my friends. We might go out to eat a little too often, but you can't beat the laughter ringing around our table!

I'm thankful for being able to leave my stressful job and enjoy my second career as a writer. There might be a little stress there too - like when the story just won't cooperate, or when sales aren't always what I hope - but I can sit at the keyboard in my yoga pants and drool over pics of hunks and call it research.

I'm thankful that we are able to winter in FL and avoid the cold and snow for a few months. For our cozy winter home and the beautiful view around us.

And for my readers. I'm so thankful to you! You are the reason I do what I do!

What are you thankful for?

Welcome to the World Little Man!

I'm a grandma again! This time my son and his wife welcomed a beautiful little boy into the world. At 9 lbs, 9 oz, he's a big boy! So, for your Monday morning enjoyment, can you stand a little baby boy sweetness?

Gotta get a pic of me holding my little man! Soon!

I Miss Writing!

As many of you know, for the past four months, my hubby and I have been living in our fifth-wheel in an RV park in south central Florida to help my mom and dad. Living in Florida this winter has not been a hardship. Normally we would have been in the middle of all those frigid temperatures and piles of snow. I admit to enjoying the sunshine and warmth weather, being able to walk outside instead of hibernating. But while we've been able to get away for a day or two here and there, I'm here for my parents and basically on call. My dad was discharged from the nursing home last Thursday (yay!) but there's already been a late night run to the ER.

I'm glad I'm at a point in my life where I'm able to help them. I haven't spent this much time with my parents since I was growing up at home and I'm enjoying much of this time together. I don't want to sound like I'm whining or complaining, but the truth is, most mornings I wake up with a fist of nerves in my stomach. We never know what the day will bring. I have so much respect for caregivers. I'm only doing a fraction of what many of them do.

I miss my family and friends up home. The little guy is two-years-old, growing and changing every day. My son and his wife are expecting their first child in May and I'm missing watching her grow large with child. There are texts and phone calls and pictures and videos, and we'll catch up on all those hugs we've missed when we get home. I expected to miss my family.

I didn't expect to miss writing.

First of all, I thought I'd be able to keep up with my writing. I thought I'd have finished Her Royal Masquerade by now. I thought I'd have another book started by now. After all, I do have a lot of free time I could spend at the computer. But I discovered that just because my time is free, it doesn't mean my brain is. I didn't expect it to be so filled with G-tubes and dysphagia and doctor appointments and pureed food diets and overwhelmed mother and recovering father, that there isn't any room left for creativity. I've tried to write but if I'm not staring at a blank screen, the words I do type are stilted and I end up deleting them.

So somewhere down the line, I stopped writing. I'm allowing myself these few months to give the writing a rest. It will still be here when life settles down. I'm reading a lot. Hoping to refill the well. I have plans for a couple new series and even considering a new direction. But for right now I'm not writing. I'm okay with that. I'm not allowing myself to feel guilty for not writing.

But I miss it.

Happy Labor Day!

For those of you in the U.S., happy Labor Day! I know not all of us get the day off, but we can still celebrate the working folk who keep this country (and all other countries) going!

I'm trying to take the day off, reading Meljean Brook right now, but the story I'm working on right now is calling to me. I'm on the last chapter! I want to hit The End. So I may end up at the keyboard, telling myself it's not really work if I'm enjoying it this much!
