Coffee, Tea, or Three

Threesomes are hot right now. Whether or not women are experiencing a ménage in real life, they certainly enjoy reading about them. For erotic romance, the most popular configuration for a threesome is, of course, male/female/male. After all, who wants to share her man with another woman?

Unless the story is pure erotica, most readers prefer a romance with their serving of trois. The emotional impact still needs to be part of the main relationship. Most erotic romance readers aren’t in it just for the sex...but the sex is certainly a yummy side dish.

So how can threesomes be romantic, emotional, and essential to the plot? In my story, SEX AND THE SINGLE PEARL, available from eRed Sage this month, the heroine’s subconscious desire for a ménage a trois stems from her insecurities about herself as a woman and her difficulty in giving up control. The hero, being the unselfish guy he is, wants to give the heroine the opportunity to let go, to hand over the reins of her sexuality to not one, but two gorgeous hunks, including him. How’s that for generosity?

I enjoyed writing the ménage scene in SEX AND THE SINGLE PEARL so much, I included another one in my story, APHRODITE’S FIRE, available from eRed Sage in the spring of ’09.

So what aspects of a threesome do you enjoy most? Don’t be shy. If it’s just the hot sex, that’s a definite plus to these stories! Finally, what would be your dream ménage? You and ??? and ???

The poster who comes up with the most delicious threesome, will win a free download of SEX AND THE SINGLE PEARL.

LOVE this subject, Carol! ;-) I've written two short stories containing menages, and both were very different in tone. I, of course, love the hot sex. But there has to be an emotional intensity there as well, particularly between the heroine and main hero.

*fingers crossed that I win* LOL

Liza, how were they different in tone? I'm curious as to how others handle the emotions.

This is my first time here and I'm totally love the view ;)

To be honest, I have not yet read a book with a threesome, but I am sure that it just on the horizon. Seems the market is pushing the envelope more and more, and we readers really want more.

Welcome to Fierce Romance, Buffie! Stick around - we always have nice "scenery." I agree with you that the market seems to be pushing the envelope all the time - must be in response to readers' demands.

HI Mia!!
I'm actually in the middle of writing a menage story myself. First one too. It's been a tough one to write - mainly because it's so exciting! LOL! Not to sound gross or anything, but I'll get writing then have to stop and "bug" the hubby for a bit. Which he doesn't mind, of course!
My dream menage would definitely include Gerard Butler, Sawyer from the TV Show LOST, and little me... :) But my reality menage would include my hubby - not really sure if I'd want a male or female with us. I guess it would depend on who it was - I think trust would be a large issue between the three people. You've got to know and trust the person / people you're with.
OK, I'm done blabbing. Great post!!

Hi Shannon, your hubby is a lucky man! Mmmm - Gerard Butler. I don't watch Lost, so I don't know who Sawyer is. Is he the Indian guy, 'cuz he's hot (he was in The English Patient too). I'll have to look up Sawyer...

Mia, I'm addicted to menages right now *bg* So, I will definitely have to check out Sex and the Single Pearl :)

With menages, I love the hot sex and having two hot guys so in love.

As for my dream menage... right now it would be me, Christian Bale and Shemar Moore *drool*
