The Beauty of Blanket Flowers

A field of blanket flowers. Individual plants in the garden. And the seeds ready to make a field of blanket flowers.

I missed doing my regular blog yesterday. Between internet trouble in the morning and then taking care of grandbaby, I never had time. I did spend a few hours trying to complete a 40 question interview though, which I did finish.

Hey, if you ask me which I like better, one thing or another, I have to give more of an explanation. I’m a writer.

Okay, off to work on Billionaire Wolf Christmas. Hope you all have a lovely day !

Dunrobin Castle, Scotland

Who wants to live here? Dunrobin Castle is a fairly well-known castle in Scotland. A fort was recorded here in 1401, and the castle is still in the same family (a family with a not-so-positive history, I'm sorry to say).

If the picture of the castle isn't enticing enough, check out these gardens. They form the back yard and slope down to the sea. It's utterly idyllic.

Here are a couple closeups of the garden.

The estate has only 3 gardeners to take care of all these gardens.

We also attended a demonstration on the castle grounds about birds of prey. I only did it because I thought my husband would enjoy it, but it turned out to be fascinating. This is a falcon, which can fly up to 200 miles per hour.
You really can't see it coming. They can only pluck their prey out of the air (not from the ground) so the keeper did a demonstration. My husband and another man both got hit by the bird. They said it hurt! The trainer did a wonderful show and his love for his birds was obvious. He is sent injured birds to help them recuperate.

Last, but not least, I can show you the entryway to the castle. This is the only place where they allow pictures to be taken of the inside of the castle. :(
However, we really enjoyed our time living for a moment like the nobility!

More pictures from our trip to Scotland are here.

Antique? Rocking Horse...

A man had these in his shop for years for display. And then another man had a store next door to his, and when the other sold off his store, he bought them. He had them for years in his home. Then they are moving, downsizing and his daughter posted them on the neighbors’ site.
It reminds me of horses that the owner can no longer care for (except these are much lower

maintenance) and they keep going from one family to another.

I imagine they’re replicas of antiques, extremely heavy wood, and beautiful. I wanted the stained smaller one she had, not sure I liked the head up in this one and that it was so big, but once I got it home, I just loved it. The picture of it in her garage didn’t do it justice. And they were really inexpensive for the beauty of them. I was looking online, trying to make up my mind about them, wondering if I was crazy to get them, but there wasn’t anything like them, and the ones that came close were around $350-$4,000. So these were a steal.

They’re not meant for kids. Just for me.   For picture taking and my bears. The jester is one of the bears I created that came in first place for best dressed bear at the Fort Lauderdale Bear and Doll Show years ago.

I had a beautiful carousal horse for years, and a huge rocking horse my dad made for the kids, bigger than this one. He made the small ones to sell for years. But with every move, I had to leave each of them behind. But these are truly magnificent. I wanted the stained smaller one, but the dad decided to keep it. So I got the white version. Now I need to make tails for them. I’ll show off the white one tomorrow.

Keeping up with word count on Billionaire. Only 14,000 words to go! I never can believe when I start out that I can get so far! It seems like it is insurmountable. And then after days and weeks and months of writing, it’s done. Or in this case, nearly done. The key is to set a goal and to…try and stick to it.

Have a lovely day!!

The Beauty of Daylilies--Hurricane Harvey Made Landfall

Easy to care for! Beautiful colors. I have the standard yellow also. And showy in the garden.
I love daylilies.

This is last night before Hurricane Harvey, at category 4, made landfall.

We've had 3" of rain so far and it's continuing to pour rain, with wind gusts up to 25 mph. It will rain for several more days, which will cause flooding for us. We're hoping we don't lose electricity. We're under flood warning and several other warnings right now, including tornado watch.

Hope everyone left the area who needed to due to mandatory evacuations. Stay safe!

RWA 2017 Orlando conference

Phew! Another Romance Writers of America conference has come and gone. It is both an exhilarating and exhausting experience, but it definitely fires me up to come home and start writing romances again!

This year’s conference was at the Swan and Dolphin hotels at Walt Disney World. An appropriate venue for letting a writer’s imagination soar!

The conference was full of workshops, publisher spotlights, agent and editor appointments, networking events with bloggers and librarians, special interest group parties, the RITA awards, and (first time this year) the Golden Heart award luncheon for unpublished writers.

My favorite part of the luncheon - dessert!
One of the highlights of the conference for me was a pop-up bookstore that appeared in the hotel hallway near the conference registration desk. Books, totes, pillows, bookmarks, anything a writer could need or want. These particular items always brought a smile to my face as I rushed by on my way to a workshop...

Another highlight was the annual Literacy signing. This year, more than 400 authors autographed their books to raise money to help fund literacy efforts. It was a chance for the public (and fellow writers) to meet their favorite romance authors!

Literacy signing
After four days of non-stop industry input and events, I was exhausted.

But, as always, I was very happy I went. I even celebrated my final night in the happiest place on Earth by going out to see the fireworks over Disney.

Next year’s RWA conference will be in Denver, and I’m sure by then my poor feet will be recovered enough to hit the ground running once again!

P.S. Next month I’ll be travelling in Europe (and dragging Jenna Ives with me) so neither of us will be posting in September, but we promise lots of fantastic stories when we return!

From Disney with Love

My son and I went early to play at Disney and Universal Studios before conference. And afterwards, I had fun running around the parks with Dawn Marie Hamilton for another day!

I signed books and had a blast. Here I am with Kerrelyn Sparks. She and I are always seated next to each other at signings. Our books are next to each other in the book stores also. :)

That was my summer vacation. What did you do for summer vacation?
