Christmas in Salado by Terry Spear
Lovely decorated Christmas tree at one of the shops in Salado. Many of the buildings are circa 1860s and newer. Some of the buildings are new, but have the old west or Victorian appeal. Some didn't bother and are like the usual--store in a box to make money, forget the nostalgia of the old town. Which is a real shame. They're eyesores of the community.

I took a lot of pictures of the old town and will share them. Hope you enjoy! My mother and I used to go there about 3 times a year, so I really miss her. I haven't been back since she died.

This is a picture of one of my favorite shops to visit. Notice the flowering plant in the courtyard despite it being December? Yep...with 70-80 degree temps, no wonder!

This is actually a long building full of individual shops. My mother and I had considered renting space at one time, but you had to work the shop also, and since we lived 45 minutes away, we were afraid during bad weather and whatnot, we wouldn't make it down sometimes. But it could have been fun. They had some neat looking homes for sale down there also. Haunted maybe???

Walked all over Salado for six hours. My friend, Debbie, went with me and she was as fascinated with the old architecture as I am. She had read A Ghost of a Chance at Love, so it was fun pointing out all the places that I had included in the contemporary part of the story when Lisa travels to the past. The antique store where she bought the amethyst necklace is now something else. Lisa would have to travel back in time just to find that same antique store now!

Such is "progress."

Have you ever been somewhere that everything has changed like that and you feel you're no longer in that same place?

The past clashes with the present, and one woman finds herself fighting for her own identity in the past so that she can have a future with the man she loves--but with her ancestor's hold over her--Lisa Welsh and Jack Stanton only have a ghost of a chance at love.

Lisa Welsh only wishes to leave a messy divorce behind for a couple of days stay in Salado, Texas, but wakes to nightmares and a cowboy in her bed, and she has no earthly idea how he got there. But the situation gets worse when she wakes in the morning and learns she’s living in 19th Century Salado. Even more worrisome is the tall dark stranger and everyone else in town believes she’s some woman named Josephine Rogers. Only she’s supposed to be dead.
Jack Stanton can’t believe the clerk gave him an occupied room at the Shady Villa Inn, but worse, he was ready to ravage the woman in that bed—until he realized his mistake. Now the woman he thinks is Josephine, claims to be some other woman—and though he could never abide by Josephine’s fickle ways, this Lisa Welsh intrigues him like no other. Still, everybody in town believes her to be Josephine, and he steps in to help her find her way back home.
Murder, mystery, ties to family roots in the past, embezzlement and murder in the present, and a man she can’t get off her mind no matter what century it is, Lisa has no choice. She must solve the mysteries and face the troubles in her world and Jack’s or they will never be free to share the love that binds them across the ages.

Nice pictures. Gee, the town I live in is changing all the time. Many of my favorite shops have disappeared in this bad economy. They just couldn't wait it out and I miss them. We have empty storefronts where we used to have thriving businesses. My stationery store closed up because the landlord raised the rent so much she couldn't afford it. Sometimes I wonder about "progress"! I had to buy my Christmas cards this year online and they aren't as nice (but it was easier, sigh).

    I'm sorry about your mother.

Thanks, Carly. Yeah, it is sad. Some are owners that are aging and no longer want the hassle. But some are just not making it in the economy. One guy was packing up shop after it had been a pottery barn for eons, and he had a pretty little shop to replace what was there, but I just took pictures of the tree growing inside the building and asked him questions about the area. :)

Poor guy. But some of the shops I really miss.
