A Trip Through Glen Orchy
As we were leaving the B&B in Argyll, Scotland, and heading toward Loch Ness, the owner suggested we travel through Glen Orchy to check out the incredible scenery. We're glad we did! This is one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland and different from some of the other Scottish scenery.
The River Orchy

From what I can find out, traditionally the MacGregor Clan and the Fletcher or MacInleister Clan resided here, before the MacGregors were outlawed and driven from the glen in 1432. Later, the Campbells were Lairds of Glen Orchy.
A single track road runs through the glen.

Eas Urchaidh (the Falls of Orchy)

I hope you enjoyed this virtual trip through Glen Orchy. Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Thanks, Andrea! I'm glad you liked it!

Thanks, Donna! I thought you might like it since you're interested in Argyll. It's a beautiful place.

  7. Vonda,
When I see these clean, clear landscapes that look almost untouched by man, I can't help but wonder how they keep their land looking so beautiful with all the tourists they must have. Any thoughts?

  8. Julie, what's surprising is that there are hardly any houses or farm animals in the glen. And almost no traffic either. I don't remember meeting a car. It is an out of the way place that doesn't see many tourists. It happened to be an optional route going from Dalmally to Castle Stalker, where we were headed.

The river is one of the best salmon rivers so it's popular with fishermen. Kayaking is also a popular sport on River Orchy. Scotland seems to be big on conservation. There are a lot of clean, untamed places. It's not very populated north of the Central Belt.

  9. Thanks. Maybe it's too cold for most tourists---it would be for me.

  10. LOL Maybe so. It was cold there but I don't remember the wind blowing. It seemed more like a protected area between the mountains. But it is off the beaten track, which I love. I don't like driving in high traffic areas.

So beautiful, Vonda. Thank you for posting the photos.

  12. Gerri, thanks so much for checking out my pics! I'm glad you liked them!

  13. I knew I shouldn't stop by. Now I am homesick for Scotland. Vonda, you are so talented with the camera. The photos are gorgeous and certainly made my heart heavy with the longing to return. This has to be one of the most photogenic places in the world...along with a certain son that ain't so bad. ;)

  14. I agree with you, Paisley, about Scotland and that certain Scotsman being photogenic. LOL Thanks for looking at my pics. I didn't mean to make you homesick, but that's how it goes anytime we look at photos of Scotland, isn't it? :)

  15. Breathtaking! I can't even imagine what it was like to actually be there. Thanks for sharing!

  16. Jo Robertson Says:

Beautiful photos, Vonda! I'm so envious of your trip. We visited Scotland several years ago and my husband (a Scots to the bone, you know) said he felt like he'd come home.

I'm Scotish by marriage, but I felt the same way!

  17. Esme, thanks! It truly was a beautiful place, but also chilly. We saw snow in Glencoe the same day.

  18. Thanks, Jo! I'm glad you and your Scots husband got to visit! I'm sure you both loved it. It is a place that worms its way into your soul.
