By the time you read this, I’ll be in Weymouth, England where I’m meeting a friend. I’ve never been to England, so this is a real treat! Weymouth is in Dorset, on the southern coast of England. Also known as the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site, where lots of fossils have been found. I’m such a prehistory geek, I’m thrilled to be visiting here and I hope to come away with at least one fossil.
As for the fantasy part of my trip, that will likely happen more so in Scotland because, as most of you know, I’m a certified nut case over Scotland. To me, it is the most amazing and beautiful place on earth which holds a spellbinding appeal all its own. This time, I’ll be visiting a different area of Scotland, the northeast, Aberdeenshire. Also known as castle country. This area contains more castles (around a thousand!) than any other part of Scotland and many of them are furnished. There are also several ruins.
For the second half of our trip, we plan to visit the Dornie area and explore Isle of Skye. Dornie is the tiny village where Eilean Donan Castle (the most famous castle in Scotland) is located. I have visited Eilean Donan before and loved it, but didn’t get to spend enough time on that tiny island.

I have visited Isle of Skye before also, but I want to explore it more and perhaps visit different sites. There are so many beautiful places of historic significance and simply breathtaking scenery here, I could spend a couple weeks and probably still not see it all. I won’t have that long of course, but I plan to see everything I can.
This trip is a fantasy come true for me and I hope to see and experience a lot of things that will inspire me in my writing. Writing about Scotland and setting stories there is definitely my niche and I hope to do lots more of them.

What a wonderful vacation you are off to, Nicole!
Since I have a fear of flying, it sort of limits where I go, but I did love Mackinac Island in upper Michigan. There's no cars there. Horses, horse and buggy, and bicycles are the only ways to get around. Well, walking, of course. =)
I'd like to go back someday.
Otherwise, Scotland, England, Ireland, Austria, France and the occasional trip to Hawaii would be great!
Have a wonderful time on your trip, Nicole. I look forward to hearing all about it.
Fantasy destination?
Scotland.
That's the truth. The only problem is no one else in my family wants to go there. They like sunshine and beaches. I like the haunting beauty and sense of history and the cool temps and...well I could go on all day. Switzerland is my 2nd favorite.
Have a great time! Ever since I saw a TV show on the Greek Isles I've alway wanted to go there. It looks so beautiful!
Casey, that island sounds wonderful. I didn't know places like that existed in the US. And thanks! I had a great trip! Hope to share soon.
Carly, you may have to travel to Scotland with friends who are also interested in it rather than family. I've found this to be the case for me too.
Natasha, I'd also love to visit the Greek Isles.
Thanks!
