How do you Celebrate?

The writing life - and life in general - is a roller coaster ride. A series of ups and downs that can challenge our plans, leave us wondering if all the work is really worth it. Rejections. Recessions. Revisions. Why do we do it??

One of the best bits of advice I was given long ago was to celebrate all the good things that happen in your life. It doesn't even have to be the big things - like book sales. Or birthdays and weddings. Or hitting a best-seller list.

You finished a scene that had been giving you fits for days?? Celebrate!

You send off that query to the agent of your dreams? Celebrate!

The scale shows you're down a pound? Celebrate! (Although, maybe not with chocolate for this one lol)

I shared my recent celebration, red hearts and black scrolls etched into my skin to celebrate 15 sales. You don't have to get a tattoo, but do something!

Do you celebrate life's little joys? And if so, how do you do it? A bottle of wine or a splurge on chocolate are common celebrations. A dinner out. Or maybe a dinner in with your loved one doing the cooking and cleaning.

However you do it, remember to celebrate the little things as well as the big ones. Your life will be richer for it, and may make those roller coaster dips a little easier to bear.

I used to celebrate rejections too, Natasha, to say a job well done in sending out work too. :)

I'm a big believer in "little" celebrations or rewards. I set a goal of writing 50 pages this week. When I met that goal on Sunday afternoon, I grabbed a book, some sunscreen, a hat, and a Diet Coke and sat in my backyard in the sun for an hour. Other little rewards might include getting a pedicure or indulging in a guilty pleasure TV show like The Bachelorette!

Wonderful post! Sometimes I celebrate with chocolate, and sometimes dinner out. But I definitely need to learn to celebrate the little things too.

Absolutely, Terry. We have to celebrate whenever we can!

Carol, isn't it great to relax and enjoy after the work is done?

Hey, Nicole! If we celebrate the little things, we get to celebrate a lot more often! Works for me :)

I just celebrated tonight! :-) I finished the final edit of my ms that Harlequin requested and am hoping that there will be no more editing. :-) So I bought a pint of Haagen Dazs Banana's Foster (which I'm convinced is the best ice cream ever made).

It was so worth it.

Great post, Natasha!

I celebrate with wine, wallow with chocolate, lol.
My next big celebration will be August 25th--first day of school. LOL!! I love my babies dearly, but all three of us need a break from each other.

Congratulations Natasha!!

I think one thing your post made me realize is I don't celebrate enough. I'm going to re=think this.

Thank you!
