You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.

I hate to be the green creature in a room full of cheer, but December has been a huge bah-humbug. I think this is the first year in a long time I’m just ready for it all to be over.

I know, I stink of Grinch. Peeeeyuuuu. I have my reasons, I swear. The hits started right after Thanksgiving and haven’t stopped. Everything from cars breaking down (both of them), to health scares (battery of tests, which came out fine, but scared the doo-doo out of me) to reevaluating people’s parts in my life (ain’t that fun?) Whenever we got over one hurdle, another one was waiting. Its life, I know. Still doesn’t help the mood.

So 2010, here I come. I’m joining the mass of people who are waiting for January 1st in hopes of a much better year. Ready for a fresh slate. I’ll breathe a sigh of relief as the clock ticks down: Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One.
GOODBYE 2009!!! Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!

2010 will bring with it not only a new year, but a new decade. The 2000’s is where I started writing, the 2010’s will be were I flourish as a writer. This is my decade (see how the Grinch is slowly leaving as I think of my goals and aspirations for the next ten years?).

What is it about a date that gives a promise of change? Whatever the reason, it does, and I’m thankful for it.

Anyone else looking forward to a start of a new year?

I don't think there's anything wrong with a little bah humbug this time of year. It can all be so overwhelming-the shopping, the cooking, the logistics of who will spend which day where. Whew!

I like the holidays for what they represent and for time to be with family, but many of my Christmas memories have to do with losing loved ones. One year a relative went into the hospital around Thanksgiving for emergency surgery and didn't get out until New Year's Day. This time of year, because of that, is particularly hard.

I would say that 2009 has definitely been one of the weirder years of my life, so 2010 can only get weirder, which is kind of exciting. I think lots of people, me included, see January 1st as being on our way to spring, and I'm all for that! Welcome Spring!

I've been ready for Christmas and the year to be over. I'm hoping next year is better than this one I've been so broke this year. I hope we get to work more next year if not I really don't know what I'll do.
