A White (almost) Christmas

The 14 inches of snow that started falling last Friday certainly gave us an interesting week before Christmas, and left a winter wonderland outside. We’re used to snow, but what was unusual about this one is the way it clung in huge piles to the tree tops… and broke them. This resulted in trees falling on power lines all over our area and a few thousand people without power.

We were without electricity for two days. My husband looked on the bright side… it was like camping indoors. And he loves camping. Me, not so much. So I let him heat our food on his little camping stove. After all, why deprive him of fun? We had to use our gas fireplace, which we rarely use, for heat. And for light, candles. How romantic and cozy. One thing we noticed was it was very quiet without any electric hums in the house. I was thinking this must have been what it sounded like in the 1800s and earlier. Anything can be turned into research.

Here are some of the pictures I took outside. The first one (above) is one of my tiny topiary Christmas trees on the steps. The last one shows how the snow growing heavier on the evergreen branches. So heavy the trees finally bowed sideways after that picture was taken.

I want to wish all of you Happy Holidays and leave you with a traditional Scottish Christmas blessing.
May peace and plenty be the first
To lift the latch to your door,
And happiness be guided to your home
By the candle of Christmas.

May the blessings of light be upon you,
Light without and light within.
And in all your comings and goings,
May you ever have a kindly greeting
From them you meet along the road.

I really hate when it snows where I live because I can't drive in it. The pictures that you took are beautiful.

Sherry, Thanks! I enjoy taking snow pics. But I hate driving in snow and avoid it if possible.

Those are pretty pictures, but I certainly prefer to look at a snowy scene rather than find myself in the midst of one.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful pics with us :) Last weekend Jack Frost shifted into overdrive and delivered between a foot and a foot-and-a-half of glorious snow to my area. Winter Wonderland was an early present, and I had a wonderful time being out and about :) Lots of fun!

Merry Christmas, Vonda, my friend :)

The photos are beautiful. I don't enjoy snow because of having to work in it. But I do enjoy seeing photos from somewhere else (please just keep it there). :)

The Scottish Christmas Blessing is wonderful. I'll have to make a copy of that to keep. Thanks for sharing.

Wishing you and your family a safe and Happy Holiday season.

Liz, thanks! I'm with you on that. Being snowbound gets old after a couple days. :)

Shawna, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the snow in your area! Hope you didn't have the power outages we had. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Mason, thanks! Glad you enjoyed the pics and Scottish Christmas blessing. Happy Holidays!

Fabulous pics as always. We got a fair bit of snow here too. About 18 inches in all, some of it falling at a rate of 2" per hour. It's still beautiful, especially the huge fields lying fallow right now. It's not too cold though, thank goodness.

Merry Christmas!

Amazing pictures, Vonda! Glad your husband is having fun. Me? Hoping for a brisk, sunny Christmas and a walk on the beach.

Ack, Vonda, seeing those pictures makes me think how bad it can be when the snow snows way too much! Great pictures and glad you have your electricity back!

Vonda, you should take pictures for a greeting card company! They're so lovely, even if the snow does occasionally bring hardship with it. Like a really cute child who throws temper tantrums now and then. Lovely sentiments in the Scottish blessing, too. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

Carol E., Thanks! That would be an interesting and different Christmas I'd enjoy. I love the beach!

Terry, thanks! Sometimes we get more snow than we want, :) which means not much travel or driving around.

Pat, thanks! I'm so glad you like the pics! I love taking them. Hope you had wonderful holidays.

Happy New Year!
