I love time travel romances! But it's not practical to go back in time whenever I want. HOWEVER, this weekend I'm taking a trip to the past. Yep, at the Scarborough Renaissance Faire--ye old mix of medieval, Scottish, gypsy and other fare.
The foods are great, the folks who dress up in good fun are great, the comedian groups, musicians, sword fights, horsemanship, all of it--I love the excitement and taking that trip back in time.
So until there's a time travel machine that can do it, books and movies that take us to the past will have to do. And one season during the year, the Renaissance Faire beckons to me to come drink the grog, eat turkey legs and soft ice cream, get an eyeful of the costumes and oh, yeah, get dressed up for the occasion too. :)
So I'm up at 5 AM on my day off to post this blog, grade some student lessons, and get on my way. It's hot, of course, had terrible winds last night, so that's the bad part. Dressing in costume and suffering the heat. We should have gone earlier, but I've been working. *sigh* But we will brave anything to travel to the past. :)
The first we went to was in Maryland. And we fell in love with them then. Waxahachie's is different but just as much fun. Have you ever been to one? Did you dress up? What would you be if you went to the faire with us this weekend?

I love this kind of stuff! Went to a writers' conference and the hotel also hosted a re-enacter's convention at the same time. It was the coolest thing in the world! I saw George Washington hanging out with a civil war soldier, and a Roman slave was chatting up an English peasant. It really made me think, and I loved it. Hope you had fun.
Yeah, we had a blast, Cameo. My son even went with us, so we really had a good time. Will share photos later!
Sounds like tons of fun, Terry! I'd love to go to one of those dressed up. Was it hot with the costume? I can't wait to see the pics.
It was hot, but then a storm was coming in and it cooled things off. Thankfully, it didn't rain while we were there. :) Lots of great costumes! :)
Terry, hope you had fun. I've been to a couple of Renaissance Faires, but didn't dress up other than a flower garland for my head. They do a whole reenactment at Warwick Castle in England - jousting and everything - so cool. Haven' been to a Ren Faire in a while.
