Mia Varano sets us ablaze with Aphrodite's Fire

Hi, everyone, today I'm interviewing our very own Fierce author, Mia Varano about her latest hot release from Red Sage.

Nicole: Welcome Mia! Please tell us about Aphrodite's Fire.

Mia: When Rafe Kincaid, the man who broke her heart, asks bounty hunter, Cassie Cartwright, to help him reel in a date rapist who jumped bail, she reluctantly agrees. But she begins to regret her decision when their assignment lands them in the middle of a decadent house party. The danger increases when a powerful drug strips Cassie of her inhibitions. Is her love for Rafe strong enough to break the drug’s insidious control over her desires, or will she succumb to its dangerous call to passion?

Nicole: Hot cover! The goatee and tattoo look really sexy on this guy! Not to mention the muscles and the way he holds a gun. ;-)What inspired you to write this story?

Mia: This story began with a title, and it originally wasn't Aphrodite's Fire. The title that came to me was "Packin' Heat." From there I began with a couple of bounty hunters, and then I had to add some conflict, mix in a little hot sex, and then the title changed to Aphrodite's Fire. I've started writing a sequel--Aphrodite's Revenge. I love writing romantic suspense. The romance is always heightened by the danger.

Nicole: Absolutely! I love danger in a story. What is your favorite thing about this story?

Mia: My favorite aspect of the story is the decadent house party. That situation is just ripe for opportunity when you're writing an erotic romance. It's funny, I picked up a book with a story featuring a decadent house party several months after I wrote Aphrodite's Fire. The possibilities are endless.

Nicole: That's true. Sounds like a sizzling hot story! What was the most important thing you learned (the thing that made all the difference) just before you made your first sale?

Mia: Perseverance. If you want to sell, you have to keep writing. Don't worry about those books under the bed. We all have them, and they're important to our development as writers.

Nicole: Excellent advice! Everyone, this is a short interview because I want you to have time to go read this fantastic EXCERPT guaranteed to make you want to read this story.

In addition, Mia is going to give away one copy of her ebook, Aphrodite's Fire, to a lucky commenter! Mia, would you like to ask readers a question?

Mia: In Aphrodite's Fire, Cassie can't squelch her attraction to Rafe, even though she believes he double-crossed her. Have you ever had a "bad boy" in your life you just couldn't refuse?

Nicole: Ooo a bad boy question. Nice! Thanks for letting me interview you, Mia!

Nice interview. Oh the bad boy...I actually dumped him for the good guy and have been happily married for 28 years. I know not the stuff of romances but my bad boy was just tooooo bad.

Anyway, the book sounds great, and your bad boy sounds like he may be okay in the end

Not a bad boy but a bad for me boy. :-) He just had a good heart it was hard to say no but didn't need a forever 5 year old in an adult male's body.

Lyncee, Wow, you dumped a bad boy for a good guy? Good for you. Of course, that good guy must have been hot if you married him!

Chris, I think most men have that little boy side, but if they can't act like a man it's time to toss them over.

Great interview!

When I was 18, there was nothing I wouldn't do for a bad boy who was ten years my senior. I still think of him today and it's been almost 20 years.

I love bad boys in romance but in real life, never was attracted to them. I'm very pragmatic.

Fun excerpt-what will that watching turn into?

I was in a very close relationahip with a Bad Boy for over a year. He knew my past pattern which was to end a relationship after a year and a half or so if I could see it wasn't going anywhere. Guess he anticipated that and started dating (in secret) a work partner. When she discovered he hadn't broken up with me she threw a scene -- turned out she had followed him and discovered that he had been married all the while we dated!!! (Explained why he would leave at 4 or 5 in the morning). He wanted us to reconcile but I was able to refuse then!! I was well rid of him! Found my good guy a few years later and we've been happily married over 23 years now.

As much as I like bad boys, the relationships were fun, but short lived - which was a good thing for me ;)
This looks like a great book, Mia. A must add to my TBR pile.

Riley - ahh to be 18 and young and stupid again - NOT! Sounds like he's best left to fantasy.

Carly, I love bad boys in romance too - but in romance the love of a good woman always reforms them - not so in real life.

Wow, Martha - such drama. Glad you found your good guy. Notice we call the bad ones "boys" and the good ones "guys"?

Hi Mia,

Could be because the 'bad boys' do stay boys---egocentric and the good guys have matured in maturity level from boy to guy. Okay, maybe that's stretching it! My first boyfriend was a bad boy and I have been disillusioned ever since. It'd be nice to believe a bad boy could be redeemed by love, but I'll choose the good guy. In fact, I did. But that's life. In fiction, I love to read about bad boys.

Oh my, I married my bad boy, and we've been married almost 32 years. He turned into a great provider, a wonderful husband and father.

I hope I win, I loved the excerpt, Mia.

Great interview! Aphrodite's Fire sounds great!

Marty, yeah, bad boys can be fun for the short-term, but a real pain for the duration.

Julie, I think we'll always love bad boys in fiction.

Sandy, you got the best of both worlds. So you actually tamed your bad boy...unless he's still naughty!

Thanks, Amy. It was a fun story to write - and there's a great twist at the end ;)

Great interview, ladies!

As for the bad boy...his name wasy Jay and I knew he was bad for me even as I spent more and more time with him. Foolishly I thought I could "help" him even thought I knew better in my head. Needless to say he was self-destructive and and I eventually came to my senses.
